It appears that most cleaners think bigger vacuum will clean better than good vacuum and higher heat and flow.

I am not one of them, but I am glad my competitors probably are.

That does not mean that I am against the little better drying of a larger vacuum system. I just prefer the little better cleaning. The price for that? A second fuel for heating the water.

Even though in someways the Big Trucks are over-rated, I still voted No.
They do the job they were designed to do and do it very well. They were meant for high production, dual wanding.

There are too many guys posting about how well they are cleaning to dismiss it.

However, if its an owner/operator cleaning mainly normal residential, I think they are over-rated. With the new tweaks in the industry, even my little 25hp Kohler with a 4HT and water at 200F gets the carpet clean and dry within a couple hours.

As for the billboard, that works because everyone is used to vans. But thats all it is, just a bigger box. I got those same comments about being such a powerful truck when I ran what everyone called my POS Big Red, because it was in a "different" box. People wondered what was in there. Put that same unit in an even bigger truck, give it a few tweaks, and its the same as the orig V, just a slide in rather than PTO.

Just to clarify something I said, while the vacuum is a big reason I bought the Vortex's, they have larger pumps for high flow & more heat than any of the slide-ins I ever owned. You get all three with the Vortex you don't have to choose which one you want to give up.

you need to look at what you make a month with a Vortex, not what you spend for the payment. If you average $25,000.00 a month and pay $1250.00 for your Vortex you have $23750.00 left. And the work is much easier.

With a helper.
My biggest month ever on one truck with a helper is $35,000.00
That was with another company I worked for and I was alot younger then.
Worked everyday that month, all day. Very high end houses and some really good commercial work.

When I owned my Chem-dry in San Jose I did $20,000.00 give or take every month...with a helper.

Brian, When I wrote the last post I said "average" $25,000.00, with the Vortex and a helper I've done $40,000.00. I've been cleaning carpet for 32 years and I am sure I've used about every piece of cleaning equipment there is. Until you have tried the Vortex you really don't know what you are talking about, so save your opinion till after you try one.

This isn't really Vortex/Titan related, but Brian said something that reminded me....It's amazing how many guys out there could have $1000-1500 days working for the man, but struggle to make 1/2 of that working for themselves....so, why is that?

Mikey, what was your best day, one man, one truck working for the man?

I know the Vortex performs better...or at least I agree with the people who say so.
That's not the point.
With the cost of the V you can buy two smaller rigs and do what would...by our numbers on these posts...be $60,000.00 in a month...compared to the $40,000.00 you are talking about.

Disclaimer...These numbers are now being used as examples and probably don't reflect reality from month to month.

Yea Mikey, tell us about all the money you made making 18%

PS-I cant stress this enough,it is the components,so get a small V8,a #6,or 7 blower, and a 380000 btu heater, and viola,a vortex without that BS guy who started touting their quality.By the way ,is he replacing those tanks yet?

My Titan is great for dual wanding. I run 150 X 2 from it every day. I dont really notice the difference between it and my Vortex.

How ever the Titan you will see the difference in water flow. Had to bump the wands back to .09 because the pump cant keep up.

Major bummer, something so simple, Next guy ordering a machine I will tell him to ask about a higher flow pump, but as I recall it was a pretty big pump on there already?

I have a 2007 Butler with high heat bigger blower all the b&w. Paid 55,000 for it .Looked at the Vortex and rode with terry from Peabodys carpet cleaning great guy. He and his helper dualed wanded every job.Small and larged. Did it clean any better than my butler not really . The important thing is that the cust is happy with your work and if she is she will tell other women via e mail about you . PS I always use air movers and the carpet is dry buy the time she writes the CHECK.

I own a Vortex and a PowerClean Freedom, I've also owned a steamway 4100LX and a bridge point lancer. Got the vortex for $12,500 so their goes brian's augument. Best machine for Maintenance, ease of use, and overall cleaning has been the Vortex, and not by a little bit.

Jeff brought up a good point, when weighing options, should used equip. be compared to new equip? Maybe there should be a 5 yr. comparison and a 10yr. comp?

Here's comes another.
For a comparable smaller unit you would have paid $6,250.00 or less?
It's all relative.

I felt the same way Jyesh, but after a while I thought about it, and it didn't fit my biz model, at least not now.

I think it was $2400.

If OO's performed the type of work they did as employees they would go down in under 2 years.

It's marketing right? Established company compared to just starting out? Bunch of stuff I would imagine. Maybe someone else doing the bringin in work and then the guy actually doing it.

Most of us here would probably do whatever work comes in. I don't see turning away too much...even if we have to book way out.
