There is a beggar at my local 7/11. He is there promptly, every day at 7:30 am. I should offer him a job. I have had employees that weren't that regular. I never give him anything, yet he is always pleasant.

that's probably why he's so pleasant. We had a news story about a beggar in Vancouver a few years ago. He was an old man with a long shaggy beard, wearing a old trench coat and really looked pathetic. The news team was tipped off that something wasn't quite right and followed him at the end of the day. They interviewed him just as he was getting into his new Mercedes and about to drive off. He told them that he was retired and found that this was a lucrative way to supplement his pension. He wouldn't say how much he made a day but it was obviously worth his while.
