The main reasons to utilize a vacuum cleaner are:

1. Remove some dust, sand etc.
2. If Oreck- Light lint moving.
3. Make noise to impress the hack out of your hopefully life long client.
4. If so inclined- impress them with the elegance of your nifty nimble vac moves.
   
5. Allow you to finally get to the real business at hand- cleaning the damn carpet.
