From our service dept. checks,

@ 3500 hours it is full of rust and restricted.

That is true for Stoddard and other non-stainless silencers.

Doubt that on a Stoddard Larry. You could tell by having a backpressure reading at the blower exhaust exactly like the vacuum reading device on the inlet side of the blower. Typically a 1/8"npt threaded fitting and hose to a gauge.

Thanks,
Lee

I'd like to rebuild my machine and incorporate a silencer. What does one run?

If they are heavy gauge, can they be sandblasted out & powder coated or is it impossible to get inside them?

The Stoddard is the one we've replaced most often due to corrosion.

Supersucker;

It depends on the size silencer you get.

A 3" x 30" model is ~$180.

That silencer is OK for your 18 HP TM if it is not run at high RPM's.
You could add an exhaust pipe under the truck for more noise reduction.

We use that silencer for a #4MR blower...
before it goes into the HX, which also adds some noise reduction.
