Which would be better on a pto, one #6 or 2 #4's?

47 is generally best
reason being..most DD's don't spins blowers to near capacity .
The additional air flow the 47 provides over 45 blower compensates for the lower blower RPM's
Also helps with noise reduction .....cause a 45 screams at 3000-3200 RPM .. a 47 at 1800 RPM doesn't make as much racket ..still loud, but not piercing loud and easier to quiet

#6 blower is beyond the capacity of a typical DD drive line to handle

the biggest blower I'm aware of in any DD is Clenco's 56

Ive made my own custom direct drives for years with many configurations of blowers,
Ive never ran a #6 but I have ran 2 #4 blowers... essentially the same horsepower requirement as a #6, as long as you have a good clutch (Pitts, Ogura) and a high quality serpentine belt (Gates Green Fleet Runner are ALL we use http://www.discountfleetsupply.com/belts-heavy-duty-fleet-runner-reg----micro-v-reg--belts.html)
You can run just about anything your budget allows. The nice thing about 2 #4's is the plumbing is easier to come by (2.5" NPT) vs #6 blower (5" npt) with mufflers etc.

If you single wand, its overkill.

Now Im running a Roots 56 blower and couldn't be happier

No issues other than it was just too dang loud! I had them setup for 2x the CFM, not extra lift... lift was about 16/17 hg.
