Clues to help guess..

Just driving along...

Straight up a side of a mountain when we pulled over to let a few cars by, step on the gas to get going again and nada.
Engine revs but it wont move.
Puddle of tranny fluid underneath, maybe 8 ounces.
Belts were slipping when my driver put it in second on the hills, telling me that fluid was spraying on them..?
Tranny pan is very wet on one end.
A PTO hose has a lot of fluid on end end around a hose clamp.
Fluid was changed 5000 miles ago but it's been a long time since the Tranny fluid filter was changed.
A few instances lately of the gear shifter having to be moved up and down upon start up to get 1st gear to engage.

While waiting for the tow truck I had Oz start the truck and put it in gear and low and behold he engaged and we we able to get it to a better spot off the mountain to meet the tow truck.

Tow truck drivers should come better prepared to pull off drive lines....

There is a whole other story...

Fluid cooled and settled, that is why you were able to get moving again.

Should have had a full service of the tranny with fluid change IMO..

If you had fluid to add you more than likely could have avoided a tow..
But still would require service.

Sucks to see a work van on the hook huh..

Wood... thathurts knock knock..

Seems like a day for breakdowns... I think I either threw a rod in my engine, or its locked up.

Yeah, nothing worse than breaking down in rush hour in a rolling billboard.
Commuters have no companion...

Last year commuters got pissed at a possible jumper on a bridge. WSP shut the road down, because cars were driving by pissed they were getting to work late yelling out the window.. JUMP!!!

Mikey,

Sorry to hear about your truck. Hopefully it's a quick fix.

Very off topic question, but are you originally from the SFV?

No, we don't know each other. However, I am from the valley as well. Born there and didn't leave until I was 27.

Was a pretty cool place at one time.

I always find it interesting when I stumble across someone from the same neck of the woods.

Hey Mike, please keep us posted. I went to have my tranny serviced yesterday and they had to order internal filters. ATM light has flashed a couple times, starting to have times where the shifter doesn't glide "easily". Getting full service, hope this prevents further issues. 102,000 miles. How many do u have?

20 years ago I was pulling a trailer up a steep hill in an old chevy truck, when the tranny started slipping and smoke started billowing out from under the truck. pulled over and found the tranny had overheated and was blowing oil out of the vent onto the exhaust. the slipping was apparently due to the boiling, foamy oil not building pressure through the pump. After she cooled off I added fluid and everything worked fine. I changed the fluid and filter and the tranny went for another 40K miles.

transmission cooling line broke or seal on the rear of the trans or torque converter went out. that is my guess, probably caused internal damage to the trans as a result.

both situations happened to me, the trans cooling line issue was went I was driving an isuze npr, truck at one point caught fire. the line was fixed and the trans was fine. the next problem was on my ford windstar leaked out through the torque converter seal and blew the trans.

If there was white smoke....you toasted it....

if it is just fluid....then it probably broke a line......

Billy, have them check the "heat sensor/temp" for the trans fluid. When my ATM light came on, that was the issue. It wouldn't shift out of 3rd gear.
