Took the 421 in yesterday for a tune up. On a recommendation, I took it to a local small engine guy. Here's what he did...

1. Change Oil & Filter
2. Adjust Valves
3. Inspect plugs and wires (I had just changed plugs)
4. Removed and cleaned carb

$85 out the door.

I thought it was a bargain. I've never had the valves adjusted before, but man, did it make a difference. Thing runs so much better than before.

I've read threads before about having your valves adjusted, but never really gave much thought to it. Live and learn.

How many hours on your machine? $85 sounds like a deal to me, too.

Man I gotta quit going to JonDon for service! I can't get out of there for less than $250 in B.S service and labor charges. I should work on finding a local small engine guy in Seattle!

Good deal. Check your owners manual adjust around 500-1000 hrs. It was a yearly winter slow down maintenace thing along with chaning belts.
