Anyone here tell the customer to put their valuables (cash, jewelry and small electronic gadgets) away before the technicians come? Id hate to put the thought in their mind but would also like to avoid the temptation and or actual theft.

I have seen wads of cash, open purses and diamonds that would sink your ass to the bottom of the ocean. Ok not really but close enough !!

If so, how were their responses ..

If a company called me and asked me to do that, I might spend alot of time wondering if Im gonna get robbed. Never mind it being a good idea not to be dumb.

I wouldn't hire someone that made me feel that way. Customers leave all sorts of things out. Can't remember if I've ever seen a pistol but plenty of other stuff. It's a true sign that they like and trust you.

I do. But when first meeting a customer, I ask them to make sure their stuff is put away. When we do an "extreme vacuuming" we often hear that tinktinktink of something going up the tube and have to stop, dump and sort.

I also ask them if they have Aunt Martha's ashes in a jar, to let me know so we don't accidentally dump her.

If that ever happens, we'll gladly clean her up, hahahaha!

I once opened the walk in closet of the master bedroom to find large painting of the lady of the house ah natural. She turned the corner at the same time and was quite embarassed. I finished the job, but they never hired me again.

I don't normally charge for closet if I am cleaning the same room so I didn't think it was a big deal. Now I have a new policy, if my customers want their closet cleaning they must ask or leave the door open.

I cleaned C***** A*****'s house when he was here in Denver and his walk in closet had a long table covered in expensive jewelry and a plethora of Rolexes and God only knows what other kinds of watches but there was probably a million bucks on that table.
We never ask customers to put stuff away. Now it's just me, but even when I had techs I had complete trust in them or they wouldn't have been working for me.

I would ask for "sensitive / personal items" to be put away....no need for embarrassment from either party.....they can then decide if they want to secure / put away other valuables. This way your not suggesting that there is something to worry about.....you just don't want to know "their personal business".
Also ask them to open doors to all the areas they want cleaned....don't need to walk into a uncomfortable situation....you never know especially if it's a first time customer.
