How can you tell when your blower is going out? Does the blower get clogged up and can it be cleaned?

Ok Richard, This going to be a long post......

Normally these blowers are TOUGH....
If you have a serious Problem....you will here some knocking.....

1.Spray wd 40 in the lube port for 20 seconds....EVERY DAY...
2.Grease blower every 100 hrs or 30 days...

Butler blowers are designed to be CLEANED every 100 hours....

1.Remove the black lube port screw..located on the front of the panel...
2.Insert a clear plastic tube into port...
3.Insert other end of tube in a 5 gal. bucket of very HOT water & ad 1qt of degreaser..
4.Start machine...The mix will be drawn threw the blower....the entire 5 gals......
5.This will clean the lobes & inside of blower...Mix will come out of exhaust muffler...
6.When mix is gone...Refill 5 gal bucket with HOT water..repeat #4...this will rinse blower..
7.Continue to run machine for 20 min...this will dry-out inside of blower...
8.When blower is dry...Remove hose from port..Spray WD 40 into port for 10 sec......
9.Screw black port screw back into port....YOUR DONE!!!! turn off machine...
10. YOU ill not believe the SH@T that will come out of that blower... KEEP IT CLEAN...

Doesn't the Butler have an access inside the waste tank that you can do all that!
The little port on the panel is not nearly large enough the deliver the quantity of water sufficient to flush and clean a blower!
on my Genie i jus slide the lid back and remove the SS filter and flush it wit a garden hose!

moRniN bAwb,

If the blower has not been serviced Properly....You can just pull the 3 in. flex
hose off the top of the blower.."that goes to the waste tank"....Start the blower
in LOW SPEED...Then pour the mix into blower in a high volume!!!!

CAUTION: pour the solution in slowly.....as to NOT BOG the blower down...

IF the blower has sit & is "LOCKED-UP"...You can JUST FILL THE BLOWER & let it SOAK..

ps You just need to watch the mix coming from the exhaust...to know when the blower
is CLEAN....the exhaust will is shooting out clean water.....

10-4! I start out at a low flow and then increase to full flow for about 30 secs then let run to dry and then put a shot of WD in!

When we've lost them it was obvious they we going out.

You could hear a clicking as you shut down, metal hitting metal that was not and should not be there.

The lobes were hitting from the timing being off.

How did you fix it Bob?

I think we've lost half a dozen in 42-years. A few of those were costly, both in price and it lost income.

Had one on a Butler that was sold and we had flooding so we decided to use the truck before they picked it up. Blower blew up, probably better it happened to us than to them just after we sold it.

Had another that went out during peak flooding and couldn't get a new one until after it was over.

Over all for the abuse they take they do really well.

I KNOW what it sounds lik ricHard....but in reality what you're hearin' is the buildup of SOAP on the lobes hitting the case!
I've been CERTAIN that i had one hitting...only to be able to SAVE it wit a good rinse and lube!
This happens because you've sucked out some hacks scampoo!

No I don't think you do! :p

Soap?

Hell, one blew apart, ripped right through the housing!!!

If it was soap, the remains didn't show it.

But if you were able to save a few of them, then I believe you.

Actually I think we induced a problem on one Butler by washing it out. Crap was shooting out all over until it locked up from a piece of the debris.

We just leave them alone now, other than lube.

Richard,

The last 3 Butlers I owned all had over 5000 hrs....
Never lost a BLOWER on any machine :!:

IMHO the Butler doesn't respond well in the RESTO-BIZ......"unless it has an APO"

To many "clutches & belts"....It can't clear the blower FAST enough...When Tank Overflows.
If this occurs...The BOX silencer is so restricted ...to keep it quiet...That won't allow the
HIGH VOLUME of water to clear & recover fast enough!!! "LOT OF BACK-PRESSURE on blower.

PLUS : the Vac. hose MUST BE set-up DIRECT....Their hose reel takes FOREVER to clear
excess water... BACK-PRESSURE is a blower's WORST enemy!!!!!!!!!!

The restriction & excessive heat that occurs....Will over heat bearings & cause blower to
JUMP TIME....or pick-up a peice of TRASH & chip or BREAK a lobe...GAME OVER

yes...i CAN see some designing flaws in that system.....!
However i still believe that the Butler IS the second best designed Direct Drive...there is!

I don't necessarily think is an issue with Butler, the one van had 5000 hours, it could have been it's time.

The other, we shouldn't have done the preventive maintenance. LOL

The others have been Prochem units, I just think we put a lot of wear and tear on them and eventually it's going to happen.

I can't imagine how LONG it would it would take read the starting INSTRUCTION'S
on the ShaWn GeNie.....

BTW: My critical PatiEnT....I was talking about removing the VAC HOSE ...
from the LIVE HOSE REEL....And hooking it DIRECT to the waste tank....
Allowing HIgh volumes of water to travel FASTER to the waste tank.....
Thus BY-PASSING the hose reel

yes i know...
I...was talking NO VAC HOSE AT ALL!

But jus let me say that there are NO...proprietary parts on a Steam Genie...it's made out of entirely "standardized componets"...which means that you don GOTTA kiss Butlers ass to get a part...no pods...no limit switches...one small standard solenoid...for the high idle!

hows that?
