I was at a custys house today. They had plush polyester about 10 years old....a mircacle it looks as good as it does for that age. Around some of the baseboards there was the black carbon filtration dust. My question is why that in 3 other rooms she had the same age (10yrs old) white berber, does the berber have no CF lines at all? Does different carpet and or fibers attract CF more or less?

The berber was on the same level of the house as the plush polyester.

The filtration lines are the result of air flowing under the walls and through the carpet fibers. Likely the difference is either 1) construction of the wall or 2) difference in air pressure from one room to the next.

#1 could be just how far down the sheet rock goes or caulking at the bottom or insulation in the wall.
#2 is most often from unbalanced HVAC putting more air into room A than into room B. The air pressure equalizes by flowing under the wall, especially if doors are closed.
