Cat 3 Black Water on Porous Surfaces

Doesn't IICRC S500 say all cellulose material should be replaced if significant cat 3 black water exposure. Insurance companies says they won't replace wood submerged in poop water. How often do win or lose this fight? Thanks

In my experience insurance companies would replace cta3 flooded wood that was significantly affected...

When the s-500 refers to cellulose material, it relates to plant cells such as cotton or jute.


When the s-500 uses SHOULD, it is an accepted standard of care but not mandatory by regulatory requirements.


What wood was submerged in cat3 water? Hardwood? Does it have a finish on it? Was it wood wall framing, maybe pressure-treated? Can the wood be cleaned over and under on the sides with a low-pressure spray? Is replacing the wood cheaper than cleaning, drying, and disinfecting? Please provide more information.
