cds 4.8 tank question

Today I was rinsing out the tank in my cds and under the strainer/filter there is a shelf under it. It is removable and I was wondering if this shelf has any purpose? Would it be ok to remove it because it seems it may be something that may disturb air flow. Or is it for better air flow or something like that? It seems a bit odd to me. Anyway I was just wondering what other owners thought, or have done with it if at all.

Doesn't the filter bag sit on that shelf? Otherwise I would think the vacuum would tear the bag right off the frame. I am assuming they still use a filter bag.

4.8 don't use a bag it has a stainless basket. the 4.6 or 5 or whatever it is does.

it is a air deflector...............

it has to stay there...........because the vacuum from the blower pulls from the top.........

That's what I wanted to know, if it was necessary or not. Don't make sense to me but whatever.
