Ok, no more prevac discussions.........

So I just got done with the Googles SEO starter guide.
I am now a little more familiar with the basics of SEO.
I paid to have my site built as per my directions, but I want to take some control of the SEO myself if possible.
I would like to start doing some simple things myself, starting with adding accurate meta tags, page titles, heading tags, etc.
Problem is I have no idea where to start.
I know my site was built using Drupal, and is hosted by Godaddy.

I guess the first question is how do I access and modify the HTML page?
Do I access the page through the Godaddy dashboard?
Is there a tool for this?

Do you need to use the program that created it?
I thought that the changes needed to be made to the HTML page. There are no other tools/programs that could be used to modify the file?
I know where the changes need to go, just not how to get there.

The best way is to use an FTP program like FileZilla to navigate/place/retrieve files and edit them on your PC with whatever editor you use/notepad

but

you can edit them on the server...

Go to cpanel
select "file manager"
browse to the file you wish to edit
edit
save

This is new to me......
So use Filezilla to retrieve them a copy of the HTML file from Godaddy, use an editor to change them, then uplod the changes?
Or
Go to cpanel on the Gdaddy dashboard and chenge it?

???
How do you do your changes?
Isn't it just about inserting the information into the HTML file. The structure is already there.

Awsome work Fred. I really apreciate the effort.
I am curious if anyone developed a SEO specifc module that can handle multiple optimization tasks in one shot. I'm fooked if I have to use a separate module for each area/task.
I guess looking into a page title module first would be a good test since you mentioned the importance.
I may be biting off more than I can chew at the moment, but I hate not understanding something. I like to constantly tweak, test, and change things, so being able to make little changes without involving anyone else every time would be nice. I will have to give it a whack after the holidays.

Thanks again Fred.

read the documentation for the module to understand how it works.........its a pita ............good luck

Its seems like a cool CMS but definitely not something I'd suggest to noobs.........
Wow. That is a very generous amount of work. I'm far from a computer expert Frank and it sounds like you may already be committed to Drupal for your CMS.

However, for those of you who are still flexible we did a huge amount of investigating CMS's before we rolled out the SFS web site almost two years ago. What we found exactly parallels Fred's conclusion above. Drupal is very powerful but definitely not for newbies.

On the other hand, even klutzes like Billy yeadon and I can add to and change copy, etc in our WordPress CMS that runs the CMS site. We leave the heavy lifting to our web master but WP is so intuitive I have no problems working with it. (BTW, our IT people who are very dialed in like WP too.)

For those of you who haven't decided on a platform I would strongly recommend you look at WordPress.

PS To my very untrained eye WordPress seems to be gaining traction in the CMS wars. Does anyone remember WordPerfect?

Hi there,

If you are not familiar with coding part then you cant change meta tags. If still you want then I would suggest you to have some assistance of a programmer. You will be in safe house then for if you change something unnecessarily at the back-end, the site may face problems in opening.
