saw some amazing rugs when I was last in India (2005) wasn't back in the industry then and possibly wasn't (ahem) sober.. but saw some rugs that were at least 40ft x 100ft all hand made that blew my mind.. yep just walk across it, its only few hundred years old..

wish I'd bought some that were for sale, was cool to watch them being made

I'm happy to see that you have some passion for real rugs
Yep, that's needed for the patience required to learn to inspect and identify a rug's construction, for several reasons:
1 - Knowing what the rug is and how it's made keeps you from learning the expensive way.
2- Allows you to figure out how to clean something you've never seen before.
3 - Can give you a higher level of perceived knowledge in the eye of your customer.

Spend as much time as you want learning about high-value Persian rugs, but understand they'll be the minority of the rugs you clean. They're also least likely to be the ones that bite. Those are the ones you have to know.
