Construction tile

We are bidding on a new hotel’s tile still under construction. All of the grout looks white from dust, drywall, grout haze, etc. So far we have used the acidic viper peroxibright as the prespray, a crb with tile brushes for the agitation and a spinner at 1,000 psi to rinse. There remains areas of white in the grout even after thorough flushing. What removes the remaining white color in the grout? Is there a chemical that dissolves it? Do we need the steel grout brushes? Would regular grout brush scrubbing work?

And apparently I also need help downloading pics. Sorry about that! The majority of the dust and crud comes up with the acidic prespray and spinner. However, there are still areas that return white once dry. Does agitation or a chemical reaction remove those white grout lines that remain?

Not really. I did take my finger and a towel to it with no result.

Mike thinks new construction is easy lol.

You may need to try lacquer thinner on a rag in the tough areas. Lots of adhesives and different things get tracked across the floors. Ask what's on the floor and hopefully they will cooperate and tell you what the residues are so you can use the proper product to remove it.

Man that's kind of a fooked up mess.

You sure don't want be cheap or responsible for its outcome if less than new. The hotel owner is going to have high expectations being a new property.

If you can make a buck, do so. However if you'll end up on the hook for sloppy workmanship, it might be worth passing.

Oh hell no. Bid it high and be prepared to break even at worse.

But what you will learn is priceless.

Besides, if you impress a client like that and the others involved your worth goes up expedentially if that's a word.

I concur, but I’ve yet to see construction not be a fooked up mess. They think they can lay anything down whether it’s carpet, tile, vinyl, and keep constucting on it and we can fix it. No biggie.

Acids will dissolve the grout.

How long did you let the acid dwell?
I used viper peroxibright which does not need to be followed up with an alkaline rinse. I let it dwell for 10-15 minutes.

That caked-in sheetrock powder can be surprisingly tough.

I’d get out the vapor steamer and zip those grout lines, then rinse with a hard surface wand.
