WTF.
I spent a few hours yesterday wrapping up the exhaust tubes on the maxx 470 with fiberglass cloth that I bought specially for this.

10 minutes into my first job today and had to shut the van off. Smoke coming from this stupid tape. I think another few minutes and there would have been a fire.

What did I do wrong?

Nothing it is suppossed to do that. Should have let it go now it will probably do it again. It will stop and no it won't catch on fire.

Header tape. Scared the crap out of you didn't it? I was a little concerned too when I used my TM for the first time with the tape on.

That's normal. The oil in the tape will burn off within a few minutes.

Its ok it goes away. Just make sure that there isn't anything else close to the exhaust that might be getting too hot in case you moved something closer to the exhaust. On my installation it took about 4 or 5 hours of run time to stop smelling and only about an hour to stop smoking.
