cure for musty basement odor

We've had an unusual amount of rain this year in Maine. A friend of a friend contacted me about his basement getting a musty smell to it even though he's been running 2 large dehumidifiers for much of the summer. He said the carpets aren't dirty so it's not coming from nasty carpets.

I was thinking of borrowing a fellow carpet cleaners ozone machine and running that for a few hours. Would that work? What should I do? Suggestions accepted..
