Customers who refuse to pay after the cleaning

It COULD happen, but with a little experience you get a little radar that lets you know who might be shifty.

Ask up front how they prefer to pay. If they say "I get paid the 3rd" immediately smile and say "No problem, I'll schedule you the 4th if that works?"

When we first started out in the 70’s my dad was cleaning and had a customer “sneak away”. He finished the job, started looking around and nobody was home. This was obviously before cell phones. He waited around awhile then loaded up the TV and went to his next job. When they returned home several hours later they called wanting back their TV/our collateral... lol... they had to meet up in a parking lot to make the sketchy ass trade... definitely can’t do that now a days

Most people looking to have carpets cleaned are not dirt bags... There are a few out there and the renters

I only been screwed once in doing this over about 20 years now.

Your dad was stout! Have you seen those tv's in the 70's?

Only once. Cleaned and she never sent me the check. I just wrote it off. There’s better things to focus on.

Rule of thumb:

Don’t clean for sketchy dirt bags,

and you won’t get fleeced....

translation:

build your business with CLIENTS,

NOT customers....

we’ve got probably 50 CLIENTS that give us the door and alarm code to their home. We finish up, we reset the alarm, and relock the door....
And email the invoice, and they either call in a CC, or send an etransfer....

Gotta love the move outs who leave to go shopping and will be back shortly and then call while you are working telling you to just leave the bill.

It won't happen again I guarantee you.

When they try that I always tell them to leave me a check on the counter. It has really helped with the 15 minute wait for them to return while I sit there pissed off in the driveway.

If they want to leave I just say, "ok, I'll write you up the invoice and you can pay me now, I'll close the door on my way out".

If you can't filter out who will try to do that to you and you actually run into that problem, then you need to learn to politely ask where they'd want their 57 gallons of dirty water deposited? Living room? Kitchen? Master bedroom? (primary bedroom, for you liberal dorks)
