Dear Mr Lyman,

Thank you for your suggestion. Marty is correct. The powder gets hard by the time most cleaners get to the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. We would like to offer this in the future and are working on ways to make it happen.

Thank you Mr. Warrington,
I do, however, have an air hammer that I have no use for. Unless, of course, I could get my hands on a bucket of Ice.

when we buy 5 gallon pails we just keep refilling the jars and gallons from it, only open for 5 min max.

And a good one too. I'm not a chemist, if there's something that will absorb the bad stuff while leaving the good stuff alone you may be on to something.

Thanks for the suggestions!! The challenge is adding ingredients to change the odor, texture of the powder, etc. without impacting the great cleaning of the formula.
We have tried many fragrances which sour over time and contribute to the bricking of the powder. I believe that we have found a fragrance which neutralizes the bad odor without the fragrance being noticed at ready to use dilution. I am waiting for feedback from the field before we make the change. We have tried several ingredients to improve the texture of the powder with limited success. Our last test was a pail which we had in a lab oven for 30 days, which showed some improvement but not enough to release in a pail. I have a few more ingredients that we will try including a silica gel. I have made up over 50 different formulas in this process of making the proper adjustments without compromising the cleaning performance of Flex Ice.
One important feature in using any powdered rinse is that soft water significantly improves performance. Use with hard water is like adding a bad ingredient to the formula. Powdered rinses by their very nature contain water softening agents (chelating agents, carbonates, phosphates, etc.) which are used up to soften hard water and not available for cleaning. We did one lab test ( 14 grains of water hardness)where we calculated that 87% of the formula was used for water softening and not available for cleaning at a 1 to 640 dilution (standard dilution for powders). Water softening salt is $.15 per pound
and most powdered rinses cost about $6.00 per pound. Do the math, use soft water!!

Scott Warrington is more focused on accessories and equipment as his job description has changed. I felt guilty about Scott posting on chemicals now that he his hands full with his new role. I will answer questions or clarify whenever I have time and/or when it is appropriate. A monthly post will suit me well as I like to work anonymously whenever possible.
