Founded in 2010 the association is made up of some of the finest rug washers in the world and collectively has thousands of years experience caring for area rugs. The Experience welcomes ARCS to our convention.

  1. Introduction to Rug Identification, Ben Knause and Mike Jensen will discuss basic rug identification using actual rugs, slides and their own experience to help participants grasp the fundamentals of rug i.d. Ever wonder how to tell a Karastan from a hand made rug; it's not so hard. Ever wonder how to tell a Sino-Persian from an Iranian original? That's a bit trickier, but not impossible to learn. Come and see how.
  2. 'Washing Rugs; Big Plant, Small Plant', Randy Hyde will discuss scale, and economies of scale, in the rug washing industry. Can a wash plant be too big? Too small? Too simple? Too complicated? Everybody has heard about big mechanized plants that wash hundreds of rugs a day. How do two guys in their garage compete with someone like that? Should they even try? 9:00 am - 3:30 pmSPECIAL PROGRAM: ICRA Certification - Performance Assessment
This program will be running for 3 days during The Experience. You must register in advance to have the opportunity to be involved. There is Something For Everyone. Performance assessments are different than cognitive testing (e.g., IICRC certification exams) in that there is no written exam. Instead, workstations will be set up at Assessment Centers allowing each candidate to demonstrate their ability to perform representative tasks associated with their job classification.Candidates – Candidates fall into one of two categories:

  1. Cognitive learners – those that easily learn in a classroom environment often are unsure if they possess the skills to actually perform the task in the field. Candidates will receive immediate feedback on how they performed on each task and their overall assessment.
  2. Kinesthetic Learners – those that learn by doing sometimes have difficulty in a classroom environment but they are skilled and capable of performing the assigned tasks. Using performance assessments to evaluate workers solves problems with language and comprehension based upon audible or visual presentations. It allows those that learn by doing (kinesthetic learners) the opportunity to be recognized.
NOTE: Candidates must apply early to receive the Candidate Handbook that explains what hands on activities the candidate will be required to perform. A Resource List will be provided for those that might need to prepare ahead of time
9:00 am - 10:30 am – Performance Assessment Basics – What is a Performance Assessment? Learn about Performance assessments as a tool to improve your business. Improve productivity, employee morale and longevity.
10:45 am - 12:00 pm – How Schools and Instructors benefit from Performance Assessments –Candidates need training. Performance Assessment Certifications are not tied to any one source of training. Candidates remained dependent upon all forms of training both prior to the assessment and after. Let us show you how you as a school or instructor can benefit from this new form of certification.
1:15 - 2:15 pm – Want to Become an Assessor? – This session is designed to help industry professionals qualify as an ICRA Approved Assessor. Only individuals that are not instructors and do not work for a school that teaches a course in the field of certification for which they wish to become an assessor, nor suppliers and distributors to the industry will be accepted as an Assessor Candidate. Applications for Approved Assessors will be available through ICRA
2:30 - 3:30 pm Want to Become an Assessment Center? - This session is designed to help industry supplier and distributors qualify as an ICRA Approved Assessment Center (Host). Increase traffic through your store. Learn how being a Host as an Assessment Center can improve your visibility in your market place.

C. Restoration; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Phoenix Restoration. Chuck Dewald and Larry Carlson reflect on the changes in restoration over the past 20 years, where the industry is today and what the future will hold.
D. Closing the Loop, Closing the Deal, Timothy Miller, As the restoration market becomes more and more competitive, restorers must find ways to drive the growth of their business without relying solely on TPAs, weather and good luck. To that end many restorers invest substantial marketing dollars in outside salespeople, Internet marketing, events, networking groups and so on to get valuable job leads. But what happens when the lead for the job comes in? There is a big opportunity for most restorers to dramatically grow their business without the cost of generating additional leads. And that is by closing more of the leads they are already receiving – especially closing structure jobs following mitigation! This is crucially important because a 1% improvement in volume typically creates an operating income improvement of 3.3%! This program will teach restorers how to quantify the problem (and the positive impact of improvement) in their own organizations as well as outline a detailed process to improve close rates, and company profits, immediately!

The WoolSafe® Organization is the first industry body to create and establish independent third party certification for carpet and rug cleaning chemicals and the WoolSafe program is actually a threefold program ... chemical testing, technician training and company verification. Originally established in 1991 by the International Wool Secretariat (the Wool Bureau in North America) - the WoolSafe Organization launched an approval program for professional carpet cleaning products and technicians in October of 1998.
This unique and revolutionary international cleaning product certification program was set up in response to problems with commercially available cleaning agents that were being used on wool carpet and has now grown to include rugs and other fine furnishings. It also relevant for advanced generation nylon carpets, and just as important today as it was in 1991. What’s more, the interested parties have grown from carpet mills and chemical suppliers to retailers, professional carpet and rug cleaners and inspectors as well as different commercial and residential end users.
Hear the inside story and be the first to learn of the new developments in this worldwide testing program! Get acquainted with the possibilities through the WoolSafe Academy and the new stain guide app. Find out how your business can benefit from it all!
