So, any advice or thought on suck difference between a 2 1/2 inch run off the Y splitter to a devistator vs. the 2 1/2 inch Saiger set up with the box filter in the back?

I do like the ease of use hooking up a straight hose run to the already filtered Butler vs. having to hook up the Dev at the door.

I just use my in-tank Butler filters and keep 'em pretty clean. Kind of a pain to crawl up in the van and pull dirty filters out but I've had much worse hassles with c.c. equipment. I need floor space so don't want those external filters. They're really convenient and effective but I have standard length vans for city parking and need the room for all our junk.

BTW, I have huge filter bags not purchased from Butler. They take quite a while to clog. I can take laziness to a whole new level.

I don't have the rear filter box either, looking at it for my next Saigerized Butler.
I put a knee high panty hose on the end of the hose that connects to the waste tank and at the end of the day I pull it out and throw it in the trash.
I leave the Butler Filter bag in there also a back up in case I suck something up that cuts open the the panty hose.
This set up has kept my waste tank really clean and problem free.

I love the filter box that came with my 5m. Still rocking it. We use tongs to scrap the sides and clean it out.
i modified it a little. I cut the solid side out of the basket and added expanded metal. I still don't see why they make them that way. I also added a 4" port and 2 2 1/2" to th box. When this one dies I think I'd like to get one from hotheatexchanger.com. They make one out of poly.

Aero Tech wont use a square box anymore. They have figured out that the square box disrupts the airflow much more than a round tube.

Does the Dev help with air flow... yes I do believe it does, we did tests to help us make it the way it is now (FOR IT) not really the TM. We were focused on the filter flowing as best we could get it, this just helps the TM's out.
Many guys say it increased the TM's performance but I think it just because they may have been using a smaller filter that was just to small in the first place, so when first used it gives the impression of making the TM vac stronger....but the TM is really just the same nothing was changed on the actual TM.
I am a airflow junkie, but over time I have come to my own conclusions about how things work, like 4 2 door, 2.5, HSK, and so on.
The BIGGEST thing about the Dev filter is ease of use for the guys using it, LONGER WORK TIMES, CLEANER WASTE TANKS, NOT HAVING TO ENTER WASTE TANKS FOR BASKET.
The Butler Box is fine really and if you have that already I would say there would be a very minimal gain if any, so I would just keep what you have, you may want to just try putting a white liner in the basket if possible, this just comes back to ease of use, much faster than washing down a basket, or waste tank filters, clogged pump outs.
I'm not talking down about my filter just giving you a honest answer.

Right now i'm running an everest (not the 650) thinking of trying your filter with 2 2 to the filter, then 2 1/2 from filter to wand with a 10 ft 2" whip... something like that. Also, if I get a Butler, or 1200 one or the other, I could go 2 2 off the tank, keep the Dev in the truck(like the Butler box filter) and then run 2 1/2 to the wand with a 2" whip. LOL I need more jobs, i'm thinking too much...haha

Cdv as 2 -2" hook ups or 1-2.5 inch hook up. i think running two wands together off it at the same time would clog it up quick.
other than the easy clean out that the cdv makes, i really like it because it keeps the customers occupied while i clean everything. They just cant believe all the crap that comes out of their carpet.

I will give you a 100% honest answer to what you are talking about RIGHT NOW.....of all the things you have mentioned above, I was the same as you, and I can say that 4 2 door to 2.5 to a short whip of 2.0 is probably the most powerful set up....but that is it "THE SET UP". This set up you are talking about takes time, I know I have done it, it doesn't always lay out like you want, and takes time getting it right for each job.
My VW tm is 5 to 2.5 to a short whip of 2.0 but it is a royal pita to do and because of the way my VW tm is set up with the throttle set up it works well, but still W APITA it is to do. My Vw tm was really to just answer some questions I really had for myself not to brag about a big tm.
There is some REAL truth about bigger blowered tm's as Mikey has said this before " Until you have cleaned with a big blower it is hard to explain why it is different" It is very true it just cleans differently.
But after all this what I can tell you is this.....
A FAN a Regular fan I bought from WAL MART and modded it to point straight down at the carpet fibers MADE THE BIGGEST IMPROVEMENT IN DRY TIMES over all these other things, yes the 42DR, 2.5 HSK did make a little difference but for the money spent in hose, cuffs, mods to TM, I can tell you they were nothing like a 45.00 fan in each room.
Buying 2.5 hose and cuffs is not really cheap, I still run 2.5 on my legend and it works great, but if I want the carpet to dry faster nothing works as well as my fans in cutting that time down.

All 5 of my 2.5" hoses was $50 a set.. I got a good deal on them...

I have small machine complex.. It's does help my dry times.. Airpaths also cut down the drying time too..

Nate,
I am not saying it doesn't help but for the money some spend on the upgrade, A fan still seems to be the biggest bang for the buck.
