I obviously hate to hear that but just like O/O’ers each franchise is its own business entity, and thus is ran as the owner see’s fit. I have no doubt that I have techs that have done this and maybe even still are. But it’s my job to try to identify those individuals, set the ethical standards and instill my values on them..., if it doesn’t take, send them packing with s referral letter to ZeroRez
They have a bad rap around here but I probably did or do in some circles too.

Still happening here in the sunday paper and mail out but prices have gone up a little. Not real prices but tooth fairy prices. I never tried them in the 35 yrs just real prices for real people.

Jerry's answers reminded me of my first job out of high school, 1983. I was arising star electronics bench technician and I was damn good at diagnosing everything down to component level. Not just a board swapper like we have today. I primarily repaired all of the audio equipment and overflow TV's the other techs did not want. Commission based pay.

We are not the only industry with charlatans. The owner, Mr King, taught me that the repair charges were based on the value of the unit, not the value of the repair. 65% was the magic number where the customer would most likely approve the repair rather than just dispose of the unit. We gave free estimates. Due to the nature of electronics repairs, I Usually had the units repaired before even contacting the customer with our quote. If a $300 amp was on my bench and needed $200 in parts, the recommendation to the customer was to scrap the unit. If a $1000 amp was in front of me, and I had to tighten a screw for a ground hum, I had to sell the repair for about $650.

I did not last long at this job. Thus my answers were the same as Mr. Cooper:

No, I couldn't lie to people. So I made no money.

I didn't... Couldn't lie to people. So I made no money.

Yes, I didn't lie.

It sucked...:(
