It is hard to say which of my father’s gifts to me were the most profound.

One of the top ones would be that the understanding that worthy work is its own reward, and any money earned is simply a means to live in the world and provide.

Had I struck out on my own and not stayed with him and the business,
I’d like to think my work ethic would have rewarded me no matter where I went in life.

Those two boys have the brightest of futures Scott

2nd generation sometimes wants to be part of it, like my girls because they grow up in it. Usually, seems the 3rd gen either gets smart and moves on, or is pretty spoiled and don’t want to work that hard. Either way, it’s fine.
My grandkids don’t need to do that.

Then and now

He told me he wants to have his own route when he gets older, and I said he could after he goes to get some education under his belt and tests other careers to be certain he truly desires this trade. I don’t want him to feel like he HAS to do it, but WANTS to do it

That’s the way to do it. That’s what I mean about second gen. My grandsons think it’s awesome after school jobs, because it is, but not afterwards. My one is way too smart for that. Already a Sophomore in college as a senior in high school. He makes bank with Poppy because he don’t have time for work
at a regular job.
