Drain Valves

Seeking opinions about style of drain valve that you have on your truckmount waste tank. I see new equipment with ball valves and then see some older stuff with RV style dump valve. Pro’s and Con’s of each. I know Mikey, you just throw your pads in a top loader!

Ball valves last longer. The seal at the bottom of a gate valve get filled with sand when you dump and then the gate grinds the sand into the seal. eventually you replace the seal or the whole valve.

plastic gate valves only belong on a porty or those too cheap to buy a ball valve

full port ball valve is best..period

I prefer the clean easy dumping of a Valterra gate valve, and don't have any issues with seal performance. Also like the electric valve version I had on the White Magic....it's 3" which I wish were the industry standard.

If you pre-vac and use an in line filter, sand, grit, and junk shouldn't be that much of an issue as far as performance. Probably changed one gate valve from original in my years.

I have ball valves on both trucks. Have gate valves on all the portables. The ball valves seem to outlast the gate valves.
