Does a drying stroke cool down the carpet fibre and retard the heat evaporation on the carpet which makes it take longer to dry??

good question but i dont think so, but i might be wrong. i do think it would depend on how much water is being put down.

Yes, it will cool the carpet down, but you are physically removing more water in most cases. If there is ample airflow where you are cleaning, then the carpet would be cooling to near ambient air temperatures within 5-10 minutes anyway, depending on airflow and air temperature.
