Several of these were very good ! I only attended a few of them.

Bill Yeadon made some very good points on Marketing to Women.

He stressed the emotional side vs. the powerful equipment side used on some vehicle wraps.

He showed some Stanley Steemer ad material that showed moms and babies playing on the carpet.

He stressed telling a story to the customers; since it will provide a lasting impression.

He also showed a company utilizing the "pet story" to generate bonding with that customer base.

Next, I enjoyed an Internet marketing seminar with the *** guys and a web search-optimizing specialist:
http://www.barlamenterprises.com/

The web expert talked at length about the use of linking to other sites and blogs to increase rankings on Goggle searches.

Finally; Jeff Cross moderated a panel on business issues with Steve Marsh (single truck focus), Chuck Violand, Scott Rendall, and Lisa Wagner.

They fielded questions Jeff had prepared and then took questions from the attendees.

As impressive as Jeff's group was, I have to admit I didn't get past the third question. It may have gone better from there, but it was sold as a "what's new in the industry" presentation but was looking like another pitchfest. Question #1 - How much do you increase your client's profits in the first year of their using your services? #2 - How do you define marketing? #3 - What qualities do your successful clients share... Since I missed the good part Larry, could you fill me in on any industry news?

The demos areas were pretty impressive, but the actual information offered was still thinner than the product pitches. I'd like presenters to answer questions from the audience rather than tell them they have to make an additional purchase to get the answer. At least attendees got a look at how some of the products worked (and how some didn't) in use so they could make a better purchasing decision.

I thought the E-mail response seminar was something all of us could use. Tre Allen did a good job with the web optimization/social networking presentation, and the ads were worked in cleverly as examples so were less irritating. Steve T. had the meatiest presentation I attended, but talking to people kept me from several seminars that were on my list.

Always good to meet people and get a nugget or two from people I trust but rarely see. I can't believe the number of people I wanted to see or meet and never crossed paths with.

Funny how that works aint it Brian?

So Jeff was drumming up fish for his copy writers in other words?

Was there one single presentation that did not have something to sell you?

Does Cooper get a take on all that?

May have been just at the beginning and I had a pretty low tolerance by that point. The E-mail and Steve's were clean, and some I didn't see like Bill Yeadon's or Michael Griggs' would likely be as well.

It has always been my feeling that the seminars be unbiased information and therefore justify the admission fee. If every seminar is a pitch, just make it a free to attend trade show. Free to attend trade shows run by exhibitors have been done before, some were hugely successful, and took about three years to lose attendance and vanish because there was no unbiased information presented.

Personally..... Lisa needs to stick with rugs and stop Polishing Joe......The way they bottom feed over on the ICS board has done nothing but degrade a dieing board to further doom......... If you have to continue to troll for business the way they do.....one would start questioning there abilities.....

I thought that the demo parts of the Trade Show were a good thing and should be encouraged and improved.
It was fun to watch some of the other attendees faces during some of these presentations.
Crazy George is still crazy but has moderated his presentation somewhat and Rob Allen had the good sense to let his web-guru do most of the talking. Steve was, as always, the pro.

That was the lamest rug blocking I have ever seen. A hammer stapler is the only way to go if you are a true rug blocker, not a 1960's hammer. JHC!

Ken, move out of the seventies! A pneumatic stapler is the only way to go. 8)

Jeff is probably pretty new to rug blocking, and in his defense he's showing what a super-small rug shop operator might do where speed isn't very important.

I have a super small rug shop and the "speed" is killing me.

I'd have to charge 10 bucks a foot to make what I do cleaning carpet at .50

Hey Guys, saw some clicks coming from here to our site, so I thought I would check it out!

I am glad those who attended the internet marketing seminar valued the information I spoke about. I only wish I had more time to speak. Trying to fit in everything in a 45 minute window was quite a task! I hope to include more next seminar, or host multiple separate sessions spread out over a couple of days.

Best Regards,
