It's good you have her moments of happiness that her children did not. She likely was looking forward to seeing you when she passed peacefully.

The real loss was experienced by her children, who missed out on those moments in their selfishness.

One wonders if their own children will treat them the same.

After taking care of my grandfather through cancer and doing hospice at home it was difficult for me to understand why or how they could be so selfish. As morbid as it may be, being able to be there as he took his last breath was a beautiful thing. I know as a family we did everything we could to make his journey into death as peaceful as possible. Grandpa got everything he wanted and more. When my stepmom had cancer it is why I took on the role that I did and now that my grandmother has cancer, I will take that same role. I do this to show my son the meaning of family and in hopes he doesn't just stuff me in a nursing home to die alone. Far too many people end their life alone like that and it is heartbreaking to me.
