Had one of those in the last van I bought (new) without power steering, 40 years ago.

Why do you think it helps backing up? I tend to have no problem backing up, even with a trailer.

I have no problems backing up either but it just makes it very nice and convenient.
I got pulled over and the cop never said a thing about it so I am sure in Idaho they are ok
