Yes we have over 36K invested in thermal cameras.
The thermal imaging assists you in knowing what potentially is wet and when it might be dry. No better way when water comes from above or on larger projects. Plus its impressive and can get you jobs when competitively bidding and your competition doesn't use one.

I like these. They work much better than you would think. It will impress the heck out of your potential client base. Still waiting for my first big flood. Don't listen to Chaves he has more money than he know what to do with.

I have an I7. Used it 20 times but really only helpful on a few. It is for sale. Our written documentation is better for liability issues.

Yes...and no.
You see temperature differential so wet areas show up as cooler which leads you to investigate further with a non destructive moisture meter or penetrating probes. The same when you are doing a final walk through for dryness. You check anything that might show up as still blue.
It works great you find tricky spots that might have gotten overlooked. It is also a time saver.
It can be fooled by cooler air voids, metal flashing so you never want to solely trust in until you have verified it somewhere on the jobs site with other meters.

I don't have any experience with them. Lockhart told me he talked to the Flir guy at the Experience and he said its junk and doesn't know why they sell it. I also talked with a guy in Arkansas that has one and he showed me images he took with it and I was impressed.

I have heard from several companies that the insurance require a certain about of Pixels so check with them before you buy a camera to make sure you get one that the insurance will accept for documentation.

You have an educated market there. Most adjusters here are still wow'ed by a thermal even though we've had them for 10-years. They deal primarily with some of our competitors, who don't own them.
well not getting into insureance work yet. so flir is a good start. probably still ahead of most in my area just with that.

If you were to miss a wet area during inspection, such as a closet or an adjoining room that was wet from water which migrated beneath the wall, it shows a lack of knowledge of how water flows. It also shows a lack of professionalism in that you weren’t thorough enough to check everywhere.
You must do everything we can to avoid this from happening. Take your time, be a good investigator, don’t be fooled by what the homeowner thinks is wet, they only go by what they see. You have the meters and instruments use them. If you do very many water losses consider a Thermal Camera. The price has come down on them substantially. It will give you a quick idea of what is wet so you don’t miss anything. It also shows another level of professionalism.
