This is the only job I've ever had. It was either this or the military and I'm such a rebel they'd of had to beat me into submission.

Ok maybe I should been a solider. But I have trouble marching in a straight lines on beat. :winky:

That explains a lot. ----lol---

I may have missed it Sam, you split from the family business and started your own? Is the Family still in it? Are your kids in your business too? I seem to know you work with your kids....

I left in 2000 a sinking ship. Worked for my Dad whom I called Bill while at work for almost 20 years.

My son is almost 22 and has helped me for the last 5 years while he's in school,my wife answers most of the phones. I have 3 other young men who help me out.

I would be broke and beat up if I didn't find these boards and take the advice of the good people here.

Thought I would jump in on this one.

I am listening to the fireworks around my house and now on the board.

I have only been around this board for the last 8 years. I started carpet cleaning for service master in college. Yes I was on a wand and a roto. I can be encaping with a 175 one handed while I spot with the other.

My thoughts on Greg Cole. He is a much miligned individual on this board for those that are new. He has on many occasions tried to engage and continues to get railed on by the same guys. I have no idea why he returns.

Greg spoke at the MF in Las Vegas. One of the better talks I have heard. His hand out still hangs on my bulletin board in my office. I took him out to dinner found him approachable and real. He was ready to learn from others and down to earth. I have had 5-6 phone calls with him since that dinner. He was always ready to give input on my ideas.

Howard has never attended MF events when I have been in attendance. He does show up on the board every so often.

I did once respond to a event he co promoted with Jon Don. The pitch was come to St. Louis and he would work with you on reviewing where your marketing plan was. I got a room packed up my wife and headed for the river. Howard gave the same 5 points you can read on his website. I also got to listen to one of Howards round table members talk about employees and it was the most offensive talk I think I have ever heard. The guy talked with no respect for his employees.

I tried to connect on a break, broke out my stuff hoping to get a little feed back. I was 2 years in at this point. His thoughts your stuff looks nice. I sat through the next 2 hours only to hear a pitch to get in his coaching system. No personal coaching on marketing plans. Just went away with the thought write your goals down. Covey was teaching that for the last 10 years.

I also observed him at the Flordia Experience during the meet and greet he stood around like it was awkward for him.

No doubt the guy has a large company. No doubt he has made it turn key. He also might be the most verifiable real success story in the cleaning industry. I am sure he is a sincere guy.

As for his Amazon best seller. It was self published. Anyone can set up on Amazon and be the best seller for a week or two. It is a strategy for those wanting to be on the paid consultant tour.

If I were to give someone money today. I would probably be more excited to see it go to Cole.

My thoughts on both these guys when you make it to the top. You are an easier target to hit. Can't be much fun some days.

Not trying to take any shots just my observations over the last few years.

You and others defend Mr Cole so I might be totally wrong about him. I don't know him so maybe I am being unfair in regards to him personally but... if you take Mr Cole's name out of my posts, I do stand by what I have said regarding...let's call it upselling to a cleaning level that for most would here would consider sub-standard. And the low advertised price...since by law they must do something for that price, is sometimes worse than leaving the carpet dirty. No pre vacuuming, no pre-spray and no cleaning product in the portable machine that had just been hauled out from the sub contractors back seat of his car... My Concern is that this is a way to make money but I am tired of seeing these hidden videos on local news channels of carpet cleaners explaining that they really can't do the work for the advertised price. I don't know Mr Cole so I'm sorry if I have been unfair to him.

If you are selling cleaning at $20 a room for "Cleaning" and know most customers will need a "Deep cleaning", you are screwing people. You deserve 1 star reviews all over the internet for this. They are setting their own time aside for this cleaning, to be home, take off work, then have a price in mind that they can afford based on your quote, and then get screwed when someone like that gets to there home and says, instead of $60 for 3 rooms, its $300. Dumb and SHITTY.

1. You upset them and they send you away.
2. You upset them and they need it done, pay whatever price anyways, never recommend you, write bad reviews, etc.

Neither are good options. Don't think being "taught" great sales is important to F people over.

I agree 100%. Understand that my programs are designed to COMBAT B&S! It's focused on teaching you to maximize your skillsets in the home. I totally disagree with charging for DEEP CLEANING as an extra these days. Truth be told- I disagreed with it for a very long time. But I had a business that was a large profit center for me...... The last 2 years of business at Pro Carpet, I made the transition to including deep cleaning.
Understand- what I am teaching is not some magic words or a particular gimmick. it's an education you on how to be a salesperson. Very different from how others teach you how to build your business...
Thank you to Tom and to Mike for the kind words
New excerpt coming later today....

what does deep cleaning mean?
Deep cleaning was a fancy way of saying "charge you more for more heavily soiled carpet" It's something that most new cleaners struggle with overcoming. If they bad mouth companies that charge for it they look bad and discredit themselves. If they don't address it when the potential client asks about the companies that charge extra for it- they will lose the potential lead. The systems I'm putting together will teach you how to stop losing call to the "Discount cleaners".....

I think people who take care of their carpet shouldnt pay the same as those dont.

Am I missing something?

Those extra spots and stains take more time and product right?

Ive never had a problem charging more for trashed carpet. But to me its all deep cleaning now that I have a real truckmount lol.

I call it stain and odor removal. Or traffic lane damage. Im not cleaning the padding after all.
