Fresh water backflow check valve

Local gov't wants all TM's here fitted with a check valve to prevent any possible siphoning from the FW tank. Apparently its something that has crept its way from Californie.
He's telling me $243 there abouts PLUS install, PLUS yearly inspections.

Anyone else have to fit one of these?

way the hell ahead of them..I put this in when I replaced the fresh tank.....Lowe's...$15 bucks

Guess it has to be tested every year, hec for $15 I'd replace it every year.

they're working on the slight chance that a hydrant MAY blow at the same time I'm filling my tank, or a guy is cleaning, and the sudden drop in waterpressure would siphon water out the residential lines.

Thats a 1 way check valve and you can get it at lowes in their plumbing/well pump section. Some tm companys make those into vacuum relieve valves.

hell if I know ..it was a few years ago....just go into Lowes and tell them you want a 3/4 heavy duty brass check valve

Just a couple of weeks ago I shut off the water at the faucet and noticed the water from my tank was backflowing into the faucet. It had a back flow prevention device on it so the water all went on the ground.

the gov't dude said that there is the "chance" that if a hydrant blew, or a firetruck hooks up, that there would be a negative pressure. Once the water leaves the house meter, they don't want it back into the system. I can appreciate their concern, but he's talking IF my auto shut off fails, IF my tank fills over the fill pipe, and IF that happens at the same time whatever causes the freak neg-press, THEN it could siphon unpotable water from my rinse tank. IF all that happened.
Its a hell of a lot of time and money to cover an IF that I've never seen happen in all the 15 yrs I've been cleaning. Have to remember, they want it tested and re-approved EVERY year, that means for some lucky plumber, he's got gov't license to take our money every year.
Eventually every house/busn is supposed to get one of these valves at the meter. Some lucky plumber will be busy ALL year JUST inspecting and testing valves. Gov't job security, paid for by the public.

any of you lads in Cali have to do this?
