No, it’s not a good idea for you to go to a Mikey’s fest in the beginning. All that will accomplish is introducing you to equipment you can’t afford and people trying to sell it to you. I’d suggest you talk to @Jim Pemberton
He’ll give it to you straight without confusion and not try to sell you something because he sells it. Stay away from Mikey for awhile until you get your sea legs.
Yes it IS a good idea.... unless yor a mouth breather an have the vocabulary of an orangutan...you jus might get some great ideas AND possibly meet a few people that jus may turn out to be great friends thru out yor life....and hey we all need friends! Don we?..
And get a direct drive truck mount and be some body!

Have you run a PEX? I get all the drying time I need on commercial carpet. It puts out excellent heat for crusted baby spit up, or anything else where heat is required. I would hate having to use a porty of any kind in residential, but it’s the cats ass for commercial.
It's a good machine for what it is, just not what I prefer.

You can use a portable and use a booster for longer hose runs, also a heater will help, propane or diesel.

A used truck mount would be a world of difference.

I used portys years ago, and would never use one now.

To much work.

Keep the lawn care business. Do both. Be about your grind if you can handle both. One will supplement the other when slow times boomerang around for either.

Keep a portable for portable jobs.

Get a decent running van and install an ez maintenance tm without the bells and whistles that you can work on yourself when it needs attention.

All thats needed for TM:

Kohler Command 27
Pump
#4 blower
Silencer
Custom Heat Divertor ss box
Heat Exchange or Diesal heat set up

Check out Johns Hot Heat Exchange for simplicity tm
Johns Hot Heat Exchange

Check out Pembertons as well.

Best wishes

I did have a trailer set up with a portable, generator, hose reels and little giant heater and vacuum boosters. Something I built little by little, slowly pulling my porty outside the house. I do not at all recommend this! The setup and spiderweb of cords and hoses and upkeep on each individual piece could get maddening. I eventually bought a truckmount and still kept the porty for those jobs I needed it on. I have since sold my truckmount and only have my porty now, since I am now longer cleaning full time.

Use a portable as exactly that. The one I have now can easily pull 50' of 2" vac hose with and clean efficiently, which works great for what I use it for on occasion when I get a side job or clean my own house.

As for Mikeys Fest... GO. You will get hands on experience with other different machines and methods that you can't learn nor want to learn as you go on the your own jobs. Mike really has an awesome thing going that he continually makes better and better.

Anywho.. just my two cents and I hope that it all goes well with you.
