-How and when did you get into the carpet cleaning industry?

-You and Larry Cooper appeared to be best buddies and were in cahoots to take over this industry, what went wrong?

-What other career paths were you considering and or have currently fantasized about?

-Many have said the Robert Allen must have some dirt on you since he is allowed to break your rules on your forum at will. I personally think it’s your way of pissing me off, which is it?

- How many cleaners read ICS magazine every month?

-I was somewhat disappointed with the turnout at Mikefest this past February. I blame the economy and lack of support from the local suppliers in the area in which it was held. What factors do you blame for having less than 50 people show up to your event in New Orleans?

-Would you ever use VLM to clean your carpet at home?

-Have any of the 80 vendors who showed up in New Orleans asked for their money back from you?

-If you were to start your own carpet cleaning business whose business model/plan would you try and duplicate?

-When you were being escorted out of Connections in Florida this year for violating their rules by trying to drum up vendors for New Orleans, did you think to yourself.. “Well now I know how Ken Harris felt”?

-Was it Danny Strickland or Jimmy Ladwig who caught you reading a copy Clean Fax in the men’s bathroom @ Connections and was his pointing it out really solid grounds on which to ban him off your forum?

Thanks Evan!

I believe my only involvement in the bathroom incident was to pass over an extra roll under the stall.

I heard from someone who went it was a bomb.

10-12 people in the breakout sessions, it was such a ghost town they took a peek and decided to skip the trade show.

No one in there but the vendors, and they looked desperate.

Man that would have sucked if you would have taken the time and spent the money to go.

Exactly Ken...

There was a banner promoting the event on ICS.

It took TWO WEEKS for someone to actually click it and tell EV~ that it didn't link to any where...

I forget the name of the event but it was like the water damage cruise only instead of the love boat ~ decided the moldiest place, stankiest, most violent on earth would be a better venue.

NDR Expo. http://www.ndrexpo.com/

I think Ivan went, or he posted on ICS he was planning on going. Al Bradham was speaking too.

I had heard it was Jim Holland's attempt at starting another association? I guess it shows there isn't really a demand for another one!

Yes and no.

Yes people want a logo they can point to and say they are members. They want access for help when they need it and group or discounted buying power.

and NO because that damm thing Al Gore invented, called the internet has caught on.

I hear people from different parts of the country can talk to each other, share information, and dammed if you can't buy things right off of that there internet. Gollly it's amazing!

The BB's especially this one have taken the place of associations for many cleaners.

The next evolution is a web based association, with web based training and certification.
Who has the time or funds to stick into it is the problem.

Too many have personal agendas and want their hands in your pocket.

From the looks of it, it would have been a no brainer to sign up for it.
An opportunity to have a shot at a bunch of heavier hitters.

Man that's a target rich environment, why not.

Who besides the promoters would know the head count would be so low.

I'd be pissed if they made me drag a booth and equipment cross country for a handful of people. I think if I'd have known it was just a couple of dozen people, I'd have no-showed and cut my losses.

The Disaster Show was a disaster. I don't think you can fairly put the blame on anyone. It's a new show, New Orleans was not a good choice for the location (too hard to get there compared to other places) and the economy stinks. I think the show would be better in Vegas earlier in the year or kill a separate show and put it with Connections and make that show bigger.

Does this industry even need another money grubbing event?

Interesting question. Do we need more shows? I don't think so. I think Connections (I think it could be enlarged to accommodate the Disaster show) is a good show and it allows manufacturers to show their products and the PCC's to look and compare products that their dist. may not carry. The other nice thing about the shows as Connections is that I get to talk to the PCC's and get their perspective first hand. I get great ideas from you guys. At the last show Bob Foster gave us the idea for our roto-molded shelves. And Mikey and John Olson complained about the opening (fill cap) on our injector bottles. (all fixed now)

Richard, Jim Holland is a name I remember my old boss back in the '90's calling him all sorts of names I can't print. He used to run Sears in Sacto back in the late 80's. What is his role in the industry now? Just curious...

He owns Restoration Consulatants, a training company for mold, sewage safety & thermal imaging.

He also had a very active part and influence in the IICRC standards. He has been around the block and has made many connections in the IAQA industry.

My math may not be perfect but:

THE ATTENDEES:

"At NDRExpo, plan to network with over 3,500 industry professionals attending this event! The audience will include the following segments of the disaster industry cycle: "

Disaster restoration, remediation, clean-up contractors (25%) = 10 people
General Construction contractors (20%) = 8 people
Business continuity professionals (15%) = 5 people
Loss mitigation / insurance / large loss claims professionals (15%) =7 People
Emergency management professionals from public and private sectors (10%) = 4 people
Government (5%) = 2 people
Emergency Response / First Responders (5%) = 2 people
Other miscellaneous professionals involved in the disaster cycle (5%)" = 4 people

Ouch. Just a bit shy of the 3,500.

This "event" was all Evans doing.

It was all about stinking it to Larry Cooper.

Even Ta Ta Toothy was smart enough to be a no show.
