Had a lady finally bite on my price (usually I just tell them how to do it)

which is high cause I have to come out (I thought) 3 times to ATTEMPT to poultice stains out, one to apply, one to remove the plastic wrap 24 hours later and a third to clean up the mess.

Well the first time (plaster of paris, 40 vol and acetone) didn't do much so I suggested a 2nd round minus the 40 and low and behold... :shock:

now she is going to have me do all of it.. :roll: :roll:

What will remove oil from plumbers putty off of granite?

I have a customer who bought some granite counter tops and the counter installer installed her faucet with putty and it's left an oil ring.

plaster of paris and lots of acetone, mix it up so it resembles thin yogurt, keep it under wraps (blue tape) for 24 then let it dry completely.

What you got off looks like hell. It also looks like a finish is on it, I could be wrong. I don't do counters but all the Marble floors I have done if you don't get it all off you will wish you never tried. Every once in awhile I like to pull some ones chain today was your turn.

There is NO finish on a polished granite Jim.

The light spot on the right corner use to be dark brown from fried egg grease. When I poultice the whole slab tomorrow it will even out much more.

But not perfect.

No fooling Mudha nature...

I also have successfully pulled purple plumbers putty rings out of light colored granite with an acetone/talc poultice.

Nice work Mike! Post full before/afters for the clueless!

Mikey;

Did you apply the acetone first . . .

or mix the acetone with the plaster first ?

Should be able to sell the sealer now.

3 1/2 gallons of acetone left to vaporize quickly.

Mikey,

Does your insurance cover the potential logical outcome?
What safety protocol did you implement, if any?

Mike;

Lee can help you out with the liability on extremely flammable acetone.

Flip on that blender, and make some margaritas.

This are looked the worse, all sorts of weird symmetrical lines and streaks of embedded soiling that is not gone.

Some staining remains along the edge of the range but WAY brighter over all.

No fun at all cleaning up that plaster.
