had to buy POS rug

A rug came in while I was in Thailand. Tech submerged it. The backing was dyed cotton. The rug had some urine on it. The blue from the backing ran into the white and shrunk the rug.
He sent me a photo of the rug in the tub with the water Blue and exclaimed "I've been Sabotaged"
Anyway I guess he thought he had corrected it and the photo he sent looked ok. The rug got deliverd, custy nice but not happy so I go to take a look.. I agree the rug looked worst then when I saw it.

I told her we learned lot while cleaning her rug and won't be cleaning rug like this again. I showed her the cotton backing and explained that this was the cause.
She was very understanding. I'll be paying for the rug and now we know not to clean these POS.

Hmmm, seems like it would be tuff to know that's cotton(dyed)... Looks the same as every other rug.



Had to buy a lady a new ceiling fan last week For some reason I picked up the want straight up to move around a tight bed/wall corner. And of coarse they had the fan on full blast. As soon as the bend of the wand hose hit it, kablamo... One of the blades flew off, broke at the bracket. Like a 10 buck piece, but they don't make that fan anymore. They were very understanding about it. Husband put up the new one cost me 75 bucks(thank goodness).


Apparently, males need to be occasionally reminded financially to be careful.

She sent me copy of purchase order.
Rug was $599, total with tax, shipping and pad was about $850.
My 1st offer was for $500 because I assumed she had the rug for a few years. After looking closer at the invoice I noticed she has only had the rug 7 months so I offered $700. I told her she could keep the rug. If I have to pay more I will ask to keep the rug.
She has been a good customer for years so I don't care about the money.
I might be able to correct the problems, but I'd rather just pay/learn and move on.

Did you go to a local rug shop and ask them to help you out? That rug wholesale probably cost $250-$300. What brand? I had to do that once a few years back. The owner helped me out now I own the rug store. LOL
I would be happy to help another reputable cleaner like yourself out if they got in a jam. THe local hacks not so much.

Tufted rugs like this often don't do well in a wash pit. We usually just surface clean with a shampoo machine and extraction rinse. Makes it harder to remove the urine but don't usually have dye bleed or shrinkage issues. We get a lot of those rugs and they are always a pita. I would only offer the lady half of what she can prove she paid for it. It is a used rug that her cat has peed on.

You just need to find the right woman. Or should I say find a lady.
I went through a bunch of women after my divorce before I found genny and im sure glad I didnt settle.
Maybe the key is knowing what you want and waiting for it.

The thing you need to realize is the reason you will never figure her out is she has your number. She figured you out the day she met you... After 30 years? You will never catch up....

I had a problem with a pottery Barn Rug. I went to the store they gave me a huge break. Go in and ask for a professional discount. I bet they will take 20-30% off. Maybe more.

The difference between the full price of $850 and the depreciated amount offered of $700 is not worth arguing over. Give her the money to get a new rug. ( or as Tom suggested, get it yourself and see about a discount).

Keep the old one if you want to use it for training/teaching or if it has resale value, otherwise let her keep it too. It saves you having to transport and dispose of it.

She says It might take her a year to find a replacement rug since she doesn't want to make the same mistake on buying a POS. I guess the shrinkage and color run doesn't bother her so much now that she is getting a $700 check-- haha

Do any of you guys ever use dry powder for cleaning delicate rugs? I've personally used it yo clean silk with good results. Sensitive fiber is one of the things we recommend our Adsorb Ultra powder for. It seems like a safer way to go if there's ever a question about cleaning a delicate rug.

The rug being talked about is not delicate....it is junk. I have one at the shop right now....and fighting it...I want to send it back...backing is already breaking down. No matter how much we vacuum it and badger it, the powdery glue keeps coming out and the urine/dog oil smell is a total pita to try to get out.

You clean Sisal!?? How do U do It?
Do you clean them even if they have urine? We could never get sisal to look as good as we would like. The Stain/water marks were still present.

Pull the backing re apply the Latex and sell her a pad, thats the corrective process. If not willing to pay for that, stop and send it back don't be a Papa Hero! Some of that yellow powder could be what encap man is talking about haha!

I think if it's pet urine, I will have them sign a release. If not they can fight over the stinky smell with them self.
