I use to keep extra screws and spare Bane pump in the 90s before I had a garage. Froze those over a half dozen times

Cracked 2 Butler manifolds over the last 12 years ... early season freezes when I would leave 1 truck outside before December

It happens, it sucks...move forward

The electric went out in our detached garage during a serious cold snap about 7-8 years ago. It was way below zero and my Chem Tex Panther froze solid. Even the mix tank which held a couple gallons of water was a big ice cube.

I thawed it out and it was fine, except for the fresh water ag pump. I think it was under $100 to replace.

Years before that I lived in Montana without a garage. The cold would settle in and be -20 for a week at a time, real temperature.

I froze up my Little Giant LP heater a couple times back then.

Montana is seriously rugged and a difficult place to be in the cc biz.

I could say I wish I had my Amtex right now as a back up. But I know that would not go over well.

I must admit, it happened this year. Lost electricity to the barn where it was parked with heaters in place. I checked on it at 10:30 and when I went back in the morning, it was quite cold. It was 5 degrees when I parked it and about that temp when I went back. Didn't take long to do damage because it was toasty warm when I left. I've heard the damage isn't as bad as I had anticipated. Michael Lockhart and John Olson have been heroes and I'm very grateful to them. It's times like this you realize the power of your network in the industry. This board, going to MF and the trade shows.

Just the Dwyre meter on my Apex.
Damn Texas has colder winters than you'd expect. And I lucked out it was only that.
Moved back to CA :winky:

I've always kept mine in a garage attached to house never used any heaters.

That's why I'm worried about switching vans even the new chevys are 2-3 inches higher then the 2011 and 2010 models I have.

I like keeping them in the garage.

But the two I have barely fit now.

Does emptying the water box help?

Or pumping out all the water?

That's because I live on the Oklahoma border about an hour east of the panhandle... Nowhere near your old place in the hill country. I've been meaning to touch base with you. Our youngest is thinking about going to school at Blush in San Fran after she graduates from college in May. It's in her top 3 choices. Gotta send to to a technical school so she can get a job!!!!!

thats a nice machine, shame on you.

I bet your cow didn't get that abuse.
You're such a jerk. Like I'm not embarrassed enough. If the fact I parked the van in a sheltered area, had two heaters placed in it and checked on it all day long - only to lose electricity when I went to sleep wasn't bad enough. My cows are fat and happy. Had plenty of groceries and wind breaks. Now, go worry about those wild horses you got unattended up there. Oh, and Happy New Year!

My truckmount was parked in a garage and a heater inside the van when it was really cold. Seldom had freezing issues. But I did let it freeze twice. Once was just the Dwyer meter cracking.

The second time, an employee left it parked outside since the forecast did not predictfreezing (just 33 F). A plastic filter broke from expansion as the water froze. That acted like a freeze plug and probably savedthe unit from worse damage.

if you have to park outside in freezing temperatures, get a portable air compressor and attach all your pressure lines and blow the water out. do the same with your tools, drain any water tanks and blow out your heater or heat exchange coils.

Guys, I can honestly say i'm going a little crazy with this little breakdown. My wife had to tell me to relax and just go with the flow. It's very hard for me. I'm turning down a butt load of work and it's killing me. If this is a test, i'm failing.

I teamed up with another cleaner to bust out some jobs that couldn't be rescheduled. My mind is such a mess I thought we were doing them today. Turns out they are tomorrow.

My van is 2.5 hours away, the mechanic is sick, and i feel helpless. It's killing me.

Edit: He's still out sick.

I'd have bypassed that hx and went back to work.
I was going to do that but I wanted to get the okay from sapphire or my mechanic first to make sure that would work. I can't get up there now to get it. I realize the world doesn't revolve around me, but hell, come on guys! I hate this time of year. Everyone just puts their heads in the sand. Great if you are an employee, not great if you are running a business.

Nice to see your stories but I still feel stupid. And mad. Mostly mad. I hate spending money on non-fun stuff.

Education is expensive. I sure have paid my tuition.
Hey Damon for starters your lucky you picked up your machine when you did. I-5 is shut down. Now for me yes I froze my amtex the day before I was getting my new 575. I did a job Sunday afternoon and then came home. I forgot to plug in my heater, which I usually check twice every night. That night was the coldest of the year so far, 4 degrees. In the morning I was all excited to go over the hill to get my new 575. We'll I opened the trailer door and smoke came out my mouth. Oh god it's froze. Then I made the mistake of trying to start it.I was trying to get it warm. So I just got in my truck and went over the hill to Medford. I cried on the way there. Oops that's personal. The damage was basically the pump and a pressure hose. Also mike replaced all the pressure connections cause they were all done wrong. Costs $800 to buy new pump and fix hoses and get it ready to ship. I'm building a garage this year hopefully to never let this happen again.

But Rick, you had the best heating system installed in that trailer. did you forget to turn it on the night before?
