I think the days of credit card mania are over... now if the masses can just pay off their debt.

I signed something about a year ago locking my rate at 3.99% on the balance but it's to pay it off.

Down to about a grand and then POOF it's gone!

According to a letter I just got from Discover card, they are not allowed to raise your rates any more. Time to search for clarification.

equity lines with local banks are easy to come by nowadays. Look into that even if it is less than $10,000. You can get a flex at about 4%

Good reason to pay it off and CANCEL it. BofA played with me earlier this year. Was a day late on a $74 balance. $35K limit, 14 yrs perfect pay - actually started my first business with it 14 yrs ago. Called them and cancelled it - they could care less. Obama put part of Fort Knox in their account. Good time to like the smell of cash.

Credit cards & payday loans are the biggest consumer trap out there. The only credit card I own is for business and it's paid off every month

How else can they pay their poor execs? Just be glad you aren't with Goldman Sachs

"So far this year Goldman has set aside $16.7bn for compensation and benefits, nearly as much as the $16.9bn it put away by the third quarter of 2007, when rewards reached record levels and Lloyd Blankfein, chief executive, earned $70m.

Because the bank’s headcount this year is about the same as two years ago, compensation is on track to match that of 2007, when Goldman employees received $661,000 each on average.

Mr Viniar said bonuses this year would be higher than in 2008, when Goldman received $10bn under the US government’s troubled asset relief programme and did not pay end-of-the-year bonuses to Mr Blankfein and other top executives. Goldman made $2.3bn that year, despite suffering its first quarterly loss as a public company during the final quarter of the fiscal year. "

I know a cleaner that just filed bankruptcy because of that crap. He has no credit but plenty of extra cash around now.
He keeps telling me I should do it but I would only do it if I had to.

I wouldn't cancel it

we pay off the balance every month so it don't matter to me what they charge but went to buy gas one day and the card didn't work, Advanta went out of business and the card didn't work

kind of embarassing at the gas pump but a guy asked for a business card while I was bitching at the gas pump, we cleaned his carpets just the other day, kind of funny how things work out sometimes

We had Advanta and they canceled their cards to over a million businesses last year with 10-days notice.

It took us a month of scrambling to get another card and I pay in in full each month. It's difficult to do business without one.

I do miss my bonus points from Advanta!

IF you still have equity.

I will have all my cc debt paid off in a week. I got sucked into thinking I could built credit by using them and just transfer balances around to another into rate of 0-2%. Those days are gone and it might not be such a bad thing. I hope China doesn’t have the same ability to change credit terms.

I'm debt free in my business. Personal, just the house payment. I've got one business credit card and it's paid off monthly.

For me all our corp credit cards & my prsonal cards are just tools to get additional time on our money and to earn reward points. We charge 100-200k a month on my cards but all are paid off each month so no charges are incurred.

Citibank & Chase = legalized , GOVERNMENT BACKED Loan Sharks

This will come back to haunt them big time. People will remember this for along time and avoid them permanently.
I will never do business with either of these companies ever.

We owe on everything, well most everything.

We almost paid this building off and did a $100,000.00 remodel and now we owe for 10-more years. :(

Bought a new building last year in Lawrence and owe for 15-yrs.

When ever we pay something off we look to see what else we need and buy it.

Debt free?
I really can't even imagine, I've never seen it and probably never will.
