help w regulator/unloader

Just installed a new blue spring unloader on my Powerclean freedom xt. When I turn on the pump and adjust the pressure it goes up but will not go down. Even when i turn the pump off the pressure does not release, it stays steady where it was. Is there a check valve in there that needs to come out? Swear I remember reading that somewhere on MB recently. Got a huge church tomorrow and would like to have it working properly before then. Guess I could always put the old leaky one back on if I have to. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Looks the same but with a blue spring. Not real familiar with the internal workings. Is that the check valve that is disasembled there?

Nevermind, just noticed the text on the top of the pic. Should I remove that valve? Maybe I'll take the old one apart to see if its been removed from that one.

Unloader becomes a pressure regulator when check valve is removed.

Pressure is not locked in.
