Finally thinking about adding a garage just for the van to our side lot and I'm running outta time(winter). Apparently concrete doesn't like freezing. Sssssss

My question, how much have build cost risen by you and are "things" lumber, etc that much more expensive than a few years ago??? I had a quote on a larger garage for 16k couple of years ago. Had a couple of knuckleheads out last week both wanted 21k for a 14x20.

I know lumber has risen a lot this year, wild fire and such. But, holy doop 75 bucks a foot..... For a garage?!

My partner said our 30/40 building by it self was 20k. Pole barn. All said and done it was 50k. We probably have 60k total. 2018 I added a 10/40 lean to on the side.

why didn't you call him, Coop?

lots of disruption getting many building materials has been a problem for contractors since covid .
Siding, HVAC, treated lumber are several I know has been a problem with back order waits

as far as material price hikes specific to garage ....
I just looked.... appears lumber is up near double

OSB sheathing has gone through the roof
Pre-covid 1/2" OSB was $7-$9 a sheet.
It's $25 now (down a little from a month ago when it was $29)

shingles up a little

could be a double whammy causing the spikes on some stuff
Covid causing disruptions in domestic manufacturing and overseas supply chain
and hurricanes...increased need of materials down south

I just built a 16 x 20 garage from Menards and it cost me about 8k with slab for me to build it myself. I wouldn't be surprised for it to cost 12K. I bought before the prices spiked. Lumber is double what it was.

Had a client who's a builder/contractor tell me, wait til next year. Lumber will be much cheaper. Covid shut down the industry and they are still apparently behind.

If the Dr. give me clearance in the morning, I was excitedly looking forward to buying a sheet of plywood to tinker with in the shop (my therapy).

So your telling me I'm gonna get hosed?
