What is it that you see North American cleaners do that you think is the most backwards and why? (we will let you know what we think of you guys after)

C'mon BOB - we all know and respect the fact that you Americans (and Canadians I suppose) are the pioneers in the cc industry. I do believe it goes over the top now and then but give me a big gas guzzlin' American machine over a little european made electric drag along any day. I've learnt a lot from you guys over the last few years. Thanks :wink:

Having been dealing with all sides of the fence for quite some years - I would probably say how long it took for 2" wands, larger vacuum hose and glides to be accepted into your marketplace.

2" wands and glides have been designed and used down here for coming up to 20 years I would say at a rough guess. I think that is one of the best things that I have seen come from MB is the push to go larger. Every TM here in Australia is sold standard with 2" wand for decades now (unless the client specially requests a 1.5" wand)

And the other difference I see, is that (on average) the Aussie (and perhaps the Kiwi cleaner) are more mechanically inclined (I know there are some very switched on guys on here though). Because of our distances over here between service centres, if you buy a truckmount, you have to know how to wrench it yourself at some stage. When purchasing a truckmount over here, it is not a case of buy the truckmount from the dealer that is closest to you - it is buy a truckmount from someone who knows them inside out and back to front that can step you though most of the issues over the phone if they can follow basic instructions.

I think most cleaners have been forced into that situation not due to our cultural differences, just due to our demographic challenges. Remember the biggest city in Australia only has approx 4 million population. I know it would be fairly accurate to state that 80% of cleaners with truckmounts are in small regional towns.

So from your view Bob, what do you think blokes down under should be or need to be doing different?

A bit thick headed and you should probably consider wearing better head protection for rugby games to protect your brains from rapid degradation.

Canada has similar demographics to you guys but due to being right next to a giant gorilla, we don't have much of a home grown tm manufacturing biz.

Having travelled through Canada, I would agree in our countries similarities.

Bob - yes we like 240 volt as well And some of those 'jack rabbits' get to over 6 ft tall. Now, when it comes to driving on the other side of the road, that is the fun part. I know when I travel over to the US or Canada, just the simple task of changing gears in a manual car makes you stop and think. When you have been changing gears with my left hand my whole life, and then you go to the US and have to change gears with my right hand, takes a little bit of forethought......

Many of the pioneers of TM development were in Canada in the 1970's. A lot of names I've forgotten. Streambrush? Used to be a regular full page advertiser in Installation and Cleaning Specialist.

I'm sure OZ has a fair share of home grown mfgs as well.

Probably your 'generalised' fear of wall to wall wool.

Having said that, the internet and these boards have been a great equaliser - and life line - for a lot of guys regardless of location.

And the problems/challenges you guys face we do to and visa versa.
