Today is the last wedding at the barn for the season. The owners don't know yet but I'm not coming back next year. Tired of getting up early Saturday and Sunday when I don't set an alarm the rest of the week.

I may try and pull some links later but it's been featured in Martha Stewart wedding magazine several times. Listed as one of the top barn wedding destinations.

Often told it's the cleanest so I hope Genny gets some help next year since she wants to continue on.

I'm so glad to be done with this. I only did it for Genny

I don't get naps. I stay up till midnight and sleep as long as I can.

I miss being a teenager and sleeping till noon.

Honestly it just doesn't pay enough for me to keep doing it. I've backed off helping Genny on a lot of work. It's taking to much energy and time and my work suffers from it. Mostly maintenance and sales but I also get grumpy working to much.

That's a mixed message Steve.
If they don't pay enough, then charge what will make it worth your time and see if they bite.
If you just don't like doing it regardless of the $$, then just enjoy not doing it.

It's janitorial on the weekends. I stack chairs on tables dust mop then mop the entire floor including bathrooms kitchen stairs. Then sweep and mop the deck.
While I do this Genny cleans the sinks and toilets and dusts.

Then we set it all up including outside by the tree. We pick up the outside including cigarette butts and trash from the night before.

When we started it paid $20 hour. I asked for a raise right away and Genny and I get $25 while everyone else is still at $20.

We work 3 to 4 hours together Saturday and Sundays. There's another person who cleans Mondays then a bunch of attendants who work the weddings.

I also clean the furniture rugs and deck when needed at my regular rates. There's also spring cleaning and some monthly cleaning at the lower rate.

Genny also cleans their rentals and new construction that I also help with. I clean the carpets for the rentals and that's how Genny got in with them.

It's been hard on my body. I've developed carpal tunnel my elbows hurt and my right shoulder hurts. It's not all from there but a lot of it is. We set up about 150 chairs inside then the same outside. Carry tables in and out. There are three types of tables that get moved in and out a lot.

I really don't mind the work. It's the aches and pains as I'm getting up there in age. We still out work all the youngsters there I just want to focus on better paying work and longevity.

I think it would be tough on you mentally too. You know your time is worth more. Cleaning carpet you can earn far more in an hour.

I agree, ease yourself gracefully out of it.

That's crazy. My sister in law just got married in August in a restored barn in Vermont. Nancy's sister is pretty creative and she added a lot of nice touches. She even had a bagpipe player lead her in for the wedding ceremony. It was the first time I've ever been to a barn wedding. It was cool.
