No !!! It hasn't been baptised or anything like that, it has a hole in it.

Looks like a chair leg has torn the hole in it, all the way through.

This is just an el-cheapo rug that belongs to a friend who has it in a rental unit.

The tear is an L shape to half circle kinda thing

Less than three inches long,

I suggested she take it to a rug repair, but it would probably cost as much to repair as what it is worth.

She was going to throw it away when I suggested I try to patch it with my Kool Glide.

What do you guys think about this idea :?: :?:

If it doesn't work, I will maybe learn something at minimal cost.

I'll go take a pic and see if I can down load it here. (New fangled camera that I don't like) :x

Appreciate any advice.

Ooroo,

Kool Glide was so simple  :D :D :D

Took it back to the owner who was rapt.

From the top you wouldn't even know it was damaged.

I feel good.

Ooroo,

Beer - o - clock time.

After checking out the rug at Margy's, I decided to bring it back and clean it.

I haven't cleaned it as yet, but I got the photos downloaded.

Why did I get a burn on the backing ??
Does it have something to do with the alum foil ?
I did put the Kool Glide on twice as I missed getting one edge glued.

Nice simple repair Shorty.

It's not that difficult to burn the tape, and sometimes the carpet as well

Using the iron twice can sometimes do it, especially if you don't wait for the tape to cool in between zapping.

You did use the iron on top of the carpet?

I know, dumb question, but gotta ask

Double hitting it would do that. The other thing i noticed is like you have, if you skimp on the tape, sometimes a spot will burn on the eddge. I always tend to cut a little more length into it than what I strickly need.

Another thing I did when I had a similar repair was zap it initially from the top, get it right and allow it to cool then turn it over and re warm it with a normal iron (steam, not seaming) That seemed to melt the surplus adhesive around the edges for a better bond.

Are you going to lay a bit of scrim over that to protect it further or not needed?

Cuz: Used the Kool Glide only on top of the rug.

Jack  : As the tape is very smooth to the scrim on all four sides, we are leaving it at that.

Harry: I know, but I'm still a learnin'

Thank you all, see you next week-end.
