I charge by the linear foot and fabric type. Flat synthetic are less. Natural, velvets etc. are more. If trashed I will charge more as well.

To compensate for loose cushions, unless I see a picture (I rarely do house estimates) I only provide a price range and explain to the clients that upholstery with detachable cushions have more surfaces to clean therefore the higher price.

I know that some charge for the sofa + per cushion + per pillow.

How do you charge?

Flat rate for different pieces, we rarely see natural fiber furniture even in our higher end homes, sectionals we have a flat rate for standard l shape then add per seat for additional.

I price it by how badly I don’t want to do it that particular day.
I’m serious
I’m lucky that nobody has asked me why I’m quoting her $175 for the same sofa I quoted her Mother $120 for.

same/similar
I asked questions to get indicators, then gave a "ballpark"
many (most?) may not know what fabric , but are smart enough to know if loose pillow back, permanently attached seat cushions , sectional, etc

Much easier to give res phone quotes for carpet with a few questions.
rarely possible with all the different fabrics and styles for upl

and who don't LOVE microfiber ?
don't think there's anything easier to clean since Herculon

Thanks to the iPhone it's much easier to give upholstery estimates. I charge anywhere from 15-30 linear ft and loose cushions are usually extra.

What's the price difference, Richard and the difference between standard and special care?
for us it's a $3.00 a linear foot difference. It compensates for extra chems, time for grooming or rapid drying.
It's a valid "up charge"and you can make it whatever fits your current pricing.
