Do you ALWAYS vacuum regardless of how it looks? (looks can be deceiving)
Do you realize that the black line is often just fibers, lint and dust and NOT carbon staining?
Do you ever brush the edge before you vacuum?
I'm proposing that the below be added to the S100 standard;
Vacuuming should be accomplished in accessible areas. It is recommended when carpet styles exhibit crushing, matting, or tangling in entry, pivot, or high-traffic areas, that dry pile lifting precede or be combined with dry vacuuming. Particular attention should be given to areas where abrasive soils tend to build up, such as in entry areas.
Counter Rotating Brush machines equipped with catch trays are an effective substitute for a standard Pile Lifter style vacuum.
It is also recommended that the dust, hair, and lint accumulation at wall edges and corners be vacuumed, being careful to not damage the baseboards or walls. Cleaners should perform this perimeter vacuuming before preconditioning. A handheld or pole brush style (no metallic) Grout Brush can be very effective at helping remove embedded debris from edge and corners, especially along carpeted staircases
