Not counting filling and dumping of buckets and carrying supplies around as a preteen in the 60's, I got my first paycheck for working in our dry cleaning plant,cleaning area rugs, as well as janitorial work, in 1973.

If any of you other "ancient ones" ever want to swap stories about those first "steam cleaning machines", chain driven (instead of belt) driven truck mounts, trying to explain to customers "where the dirt goes" when we shampooed things, and extracting sewage in sneakers, let me know!

Otherwise, I feel like the old guy who tells his kids "We hiked to school 2 miles up hill in 10 feet of snow, both ways, and we were grateful!"

I started cleaning oriental rugs - by slinging them over a barbed wired fence & beating them with a squash raquet around 1958, cleaned a bunch of leather saddles too..... got my first Porty in 1978, good grief.

PS I started my first part-time janitorial service at 16 in 1969. Started cleaning full time in 1972, went into carpet cleaning, then restoration and sold a four TM, 16 employee business in 1991. Started doing a little teaching and went to work with (not "for") Jon-Don in 1994 and they've been so "accommodating" I'm still with them. So I reckon that puts me in 2012 right at 43 years which is still rookie status compared to Big Billy Yeadon!
