How long is to long, to leave a steamer on?

While cleaning a move out I thought it would be a good gesture to remove the carpet indents. As you can see in the after picture a few of them didn't want to pop back. I didn't want to risk f'ing up the carpet and delaminating it by leaving it on to long, so I just quit while I was ahead. I was using a Wagner wallpaper steamer.

I just steam heat them up and prong them with the carpet shark (or a fork). Hold the nap up until it cools in a few seconds and it usually resets itself.
The pad is a different story. The indents might subside back.

after prespraying I attach a hose downer to the line and fill the indents with hot water, after cleaning as usual and slightly more dry passes over indent area they are normally gone
