How to tell when a Cat pump needs a rebuild?

Lately I seem to have pressure drops. When it happens it will usually come back.

Today the tm shut down (high temperature protection light). I noticed the pump had no pressure. A minute later it was fine but something is definitely wrong.

Any ideas? It's a Maxx470 with 2800 hours

thanks,
Albert

When the pressure drop on mine it means the oil is low. I know I need to rebuild mine when I see the pressure gauge starts bouncing around. Not saying this is the beast way to tell but it worked for me.

I've been wondering the same thing. Seems like sometimes my pump has a hard time keeping up high pressure.

checked the supply side? Leaks? Inline filters?

Are you outrunning the water box? faulty/sticking float valve?

If you had a shutdown because of high temperature then you have a bigger problem. If the temperature in your water box gets to high the pump will start to cavitate. Check the water box and make sure that it is not getting too hot.

I rebuild my pumps at 2000 hrs more for piece of mind. Ever time I am amazed after the rebuild in the difference. But then again, I change my solution hose every year and vac hoses every two years.
