This is a shot in the dark but maybe use a paintbrush and brush a solvent based sealer or clear acrylic on the brick only then colorseal the grout after?

I know. Doesn't look fun.

I think a steady hand painter is the best bet.

80-90 sq ft kitchen wall with cabinets on it. 10 ft ceiling

art brush and a lot of time.....the amount of detail to make this look somewhat good it going to be a pain....

make it worth your time.............

Have you tried acid base cleaner to see if it lighten up.
