Been talking to my brother in law a lot lately.

His son, my nephew. A real good kid is looking for part time work.

Right now he is working at Wendys. Hates it.
Recently they cut his hours, because of weak sales.

The kid is 17, will be 18 this summer.
Has always been a hard worker.
Well he will pass out flyers for me for min wage, and then a commission of jobs made from those flyers. ( little bonus to boost him well above the min wage of $8.55 per hour.
Also, weekends and this summer he will take on window cleaning jobs for me, at a high rate per hour.

History,
I got started at age 15 as a weekend window cleaner. Took on carpet cleaning the next year. I offered window cleaning for a lot of years, but stopped about 10 years. So I know the trade, and he is a quick learner.

His dad has brought him up well, taught him a good work ethic. He is not afraid of hard work having grew up on a mini farm with many chores.

The ball is starting to roll.

He is a great kid, always has been.
His sister (21), is just as good. She is going to school to become a veterinarian, and is working part time as a bank teller at Bank of America.

Lady killer? I'm sure his tips will be a testament.

I'm excited to give him the opportunity, and for him to represent a part of my company.
He has great manors, as I said. He was brought up well.

My sister on the other hand. Oh my god. Don't get me started.

Luckily the kids were already molded into the people they are today before she went down hill.

My brother in law is even a better father than Crowley.. If you can believe it.

I have never had any luck hiring someone to do flyers. If you get the right person which it sounds like you do,that is priceless! To make him more efficent give him your GPS (zoom out so you can see the whole subdivision) he'll get much more done that way.

Good idea, and I'm ahead of you on it.

I have a Garmin 60CSx.

Also have a Garmin nuvi, but i think the hand held will be better suited with the mapping software I have.

I was going to have him carry it, so I can map it. keep track of where he has been.

I'd be telling him what neighborhoods to pass out in.

Just ordered 5000 flyers.

Back when I use to do door to door flyers I was getting almost 2 jobs per 100.

Who knows in today world.

Do you have paper boxes in your new hood? Flyer friendly? If so, I believe you can build a biz on flyers alone!!

You have a great opportunity over there Don. With the Valley streching out closer to Post Falls, the sky is the limit there. Great Market to be in. Its to damn cold for me though. You got pics of the Crossfire yet?

Who knows on the boxes, I will do as before.

Roll the flyer and stick it though the handle of the door, if it just has a knob, it will expand between the jam and door knob and hold in place.

Last Friday I cleaned for a lady here in Snohomish. She was my 2nd ever client in this local. I got her via flyer, and she still uses me today as well as many others i found via flyer.

They work, but they require work.

And once I start getting a few hit, I will pump them for referrals.

Get yourself a good website with good keywords. Mine is ok and I get a job or 2 a week from it. Flyers are good but like you said they require lots of work.

Our flyers get a whole punch with rubberband looped through it. Hang on doorknob or storm door handle.

From door to door loop the band. I like knowing it won't end up in the yard or landscape.

Little satchel with flyers and supply's, water bottle. I do half page size

Congrats on your future with the nephew.

Just sharing how we distribute.

You can't bring me down on this.

Go read ICS from 2001..

Read my updates.

I did very well with fliers.

The way I see it, it will cost me $25.00 per 100 fliers to hit the doors. or .25 each.

Not cheap, but the response was always favorable for me.

Much better than bulk direct mail. Nearly 2%.

I know that is not huge, but come on. How many needs their carpets cleaned that don;t already have a relationship.

And besides I will also be bringing in window work.

If I got 1-2% reply then pumped those for referrals, it would be a start.

I busted my ass marketing 9 years ago, and grew really quick.

I'll do it again.

I revisited the ICS posts the other day and laughed at the nay Sayers.

Flyers are by far the best way to advertise... Don't get me wrong it takes work but in the end it's better then paying postage.

I've done at least 230,000 flyers in three years and in my opionion 95% of my new business are from these. I would like to do a postcard mailing twice a year for my current custy's but we'll see.

I am all over flyers. I pass out between nine and fifteen hundred a week. I staple a rubber band because I didn't like the hole in the corner way but getting it out is the key. And if it doesn't work out for him let me know cuz I pay $10 an hour to my flyer peeps but a small bonus of about five bucks every other week so you're sounding pretty fair and it sounds like you got a good helper.

Ken Raddon.

PS I also started out in the window cleaning biz.

Math time

5000 flyers
25 delivered per hour
200 hours
x 8.55 per hour is
$1710.00...under the table?

5000 flyers
$.42 per by mail
$2100.00
(although there might be a little time if you lick stamps which I would't recommend)

So far looks like a good deal...and with product placement IE on the door or hanging from Mailbox..it will get noticed better than a peice of mail.

I think a young buck like that could deliver more per hour.
Just remind him that the hourly wage doesn't mean to go slow to make more money.
The more flyers he gets out there the better his chances of a higher payoff.

Sometimes Teenagers just don't get it not matter how hard of a worker they are.

Good luck.

I use to do 100 per hour.

85 an hour in some neighborhoods,

But hoods like the one I live in now.

Bigger homes, not huge lots but that is what you get today.

And thats walking on driveways and sidewalks.

I'm the HOA president and have sometimes passed out newsletters.

Takes less than an hour rocken to the Ipod.
