Ok! Here's the deal. I need to order equipment for an in-house upholstery cleaning crew. We have decided on 2 green 1/3 horse B-Air Grizzly fans, an Ashby's 9cm upholstery tool (with the viewing window-enclosed spray-female fitting) and an few upholstery brushes. My employer prefers that I open an account at ONLY ONE PLACE-any suggestions????? And how bad is the Sapphire- or-is it really that much better than the others????? i am gathering that the hose only kinks at high temps. i really want something comfortable for my crew to work with as these guys will be doing ALOT of chairs! Their an awesome crew-and i would hate to lose any one of them to any hand/wrist issues! I need to hear the "Voices of Experience"- or you can just toss in your "two-cents" !!!! !gotcha! :?: :?: :?:

Sapphire Upholstery tool and Dri-Eaz X3 airmovers. Much better options then what you listed. You might pay a couple dollars more up front but you will save in the long run as those tools will last your employer forever. I sell them both by the way and WA is two days away no tax

How many amps do the Dri-Eaz fans pull-how many CFM are they putting out??? i am looking for a fan that does'nt pull more that 3.5-4 amps that i can daisy chain-and what is the price on them-and on a Sapphire? How well does the Sapphire do on chair edges and such???-It seems somewhat cumbersome compared to the "detailing " tools. What kind of brushes do you reccommend for the heavy-duty fabric that they use on gaming floor chairs?????

Ok guys give her and me a break. Do you really think I would talk to her and NOT give her the pro's and cons of all the tools available so she could make an informed decision on whats best FOR HER. Sheesh. For the record she wants the 3.5" Internal Spray PMF TI Hide-Hose with the Window. She wants her employees to see when they have reached an acceptable amount of dirt removal and it is half the price of the Sapphire. The Sapphire is still a possibility for her high end suites but for cleaning the casino chairs the PMF TI was what she decided would be the best fit and there is nothing wrong with that decision.


P.S. The 3.5" PMF tool is second to no one in my opinion. It was my go to tool and would still be my go to if I was out cleaning every day.

John I trust you and I trust few people, I know you would never intentionally steer anyone wrong.

The PMF is a good tool and I spent years cleaning with them. It has a nice angle for cleaning and will do the job BUT is does not compare to the Sapphire tool for cleaning delicate fabrics, the molded material makes cleaning easier also it's lightweight reduces fatigue.

Even an unskilled tech should be able to see clean vs dirty without the need for a window. Fabric unlike carpet holds most of the dirt on the surface.

A window is more of a gimic than anything. Once that plastic gets soiled and stained you won't be able to see enough through it to make it worth having.

If money is a concern certainly buy the PMF but if you can afford the Sapphire, it's worth every penny in the long run. 8)

I told her I hated the window and advised against it. I think it is worthless but she feels it works for her people and they like it and take care of it so who am I to argue. As for delicate the chairs they need this for are NOT delicate. I agree the sapphire is a great tool and it is the go to tool when talking to guys that actually clean high end homes but I would think trying to get a boss to spend $500 on an upholstery tool to clean casino chairs would be a really hard sell. We will see if he agrees to let her get it for the suites which is what we talked about so she hasn't given up on it :mrgreen:


P.S. the PMF TI weighs 3lbs TOTAL and the Sapphire weighs 5.5

Doc-hey-is that the same horse you rode in on???????? :mrgreen: :mrgreen: :mrgreen: i agree with you on the unskilled tech comment-but we need to consider what we are cleaning here....... Filthy casino chairs........ and once they are scrubbed and prepped, it becomes difficult to see where the stains are. And the person doing the prepping may not necessairly be the same person doing the extracting-thus-it is beneficial for my crew to be able to see what they are pulling out-and to make sure that they are not only getting them clean-but doing enough dry passes. Comparing a residential upholstery operation where the same tech assesses, pre-treats, scrubs and extracts to a commercial (janitorial) operation is not fair!!!! :roll: My techs are awesome- (ive trained them well 8) and i want them to have the tools they need to do the best job they can !gotcha! . I am not sending a monkey out to run some foolproof upholstery tool over 80 chairs a night and hope their clean-we want to do them right!!!!!! :mrgreen: We will probably purchase a Sapphire (from John) in the next few months for hotel use.......... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Lisa we normally clean commercial upholstery just as you mentioned. One man spots, preconditions and moves the chairs for two other technicians doing the extracting.

80-chairs is a decent size number to clean but a couple of guys should be able to easily clean those in a few hours.

I understand your concerns about not being able to see the spots once wet out.

What I'd instruct the prep guy to do is to spray the spots first. Spray 8-10 chairs and agitate them, then he can go back and process them as he normally would.

Be sure they are allowing enough dwell time (provided the chairs are color fast) to allow the chemistry to do the work so that the technican doing the extracting is primarily just rinising.

You can also have them wipe the chairs down with a clean terry cloth towel after cleaning after HWE.

Then do a final check for spots or soiled areas before they tear down equipment.

My experience with windows is they either eventually fall out or they get dirty and cloudy and serve no practical purpose. A trained technican should be able to see at a glance the difference between a clean chair and one that has the potential to dry looking rough.

did a 7 peice euro the other day in under on hour. CraZy ain't it?

the last large job was about 300 chairs (seat backs, cushions and some arms). Think it took us from about 11:00am to 4:00pm. Afterwards, we even had time left over to horse around on the playground.... the reminds me,,, i got the email somewhere about what the great job we did.

the window fell out of my drimaster the first time it was accidently dropped from about waist high. It has since been retired and tossed into the pile with all my other upholstery tools.

Dude!!! We have a whole Casino, Hotel, Banquet areas, Pavilion, Lobby's, bars and food venues as well. Each night a different team gets to do a couple of hours of upholstery-400 chairs a week works just fine for us. And my employer. Balance, my friend, balance.....the difference between punching a time clock-and working for yourself. i am hardly going to work these guys into the ground for an hourly wage. We go out into a corner of the gaming floor with our trusty CFX unit and big holding tank and clean them-then stagger them along a wall in front of the fans until they are dry. We are a 24/7 establishment-my crew and i come in at 1:00 am Monday-Friday-when the counts are the lowest. 2 years ago, when my father had the private contract-the casino was closed every morning from 5-9am. We used to do the extractions with box vans (in 4 hour increments)-now most of it is riding (Tennant carpet zamboni), or walk behind equipment (Nobles and Strive) . It is not HWE-but it gets us by. When we do extractions, i get to put up barriers to keep the public out until it dries. I am going on 10 years in this gig. Dad's got about a zillion. somewhat amus Ok-maybe only 35-40. :mrgreen: .I want it noted that i love my CFX. :mrgreen: :mrgreen: George-tell me what a professional cleaning company is going to do that i am not??????? blowme blowme
